Columbus - DVD player?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm that the Columbus unit plays DVD's.

I'm just wondering whether to spec the TV option on the SE-L, or leave it with the DVD player (if it wil play them that is!)

Thanks,

Steve.

Only when the vehicle is stationary though...

For Columbus in Octy2 and Superb2 you can find small CD image that permanently enables VIM (video in motion). That might be IS illegal in some countries (the UK being one of them) but it is very easily done.

I didn't check for Superb3 Columbus...

Hi All,

how do you get a movie to play when stationary, i put the dvd in but nothing happens.

Cheers

1 press media button

2 press source

3 choose DVDs/CD

Will then automatically play

As a side note there is a touch button that prevents the auto menu coming up when your hand gets near so you can access the menus on the DVDs if they are near to the bottom of the screen. (Page 32 of infotainment manual)

Tested yesterday. It play DVD's, AVI and other formats as well. Didn't checked it all.

Play works up to 5mph speed then stops. Good enough for me really.

Love the DVD player. Some of my kids clubs are 15 minutes away and only last an hour. Not worth driving home to turn around and go back out again so now I sit and watch a DVD. Currently watching Elysium over 3 days.

I resemble that experience. Not with kids but SWMBO and aqua aerobics and shopping etc. "What on earth do I need a TV and DVD player in a car for" said I when in the showroom :notme:

Now I know why I have always needed them and love it. Just sit and settle, get the flask of :coffee:  out and it's just like being at home.

Not sure whether that makes me mad or sad or just a Superb owner

The amount of times I've got to a job early and had nothing to do. I ended up having a vast collection of DVDs lying around in one of my rear footwells.

I remember one evening I  weas working late on an installation. I had to pressure test a system for 6 hours, but it would've taken me 2 hours to get home and 2 hours to get back again - wasn't worth it so I kicked back with a sandwich and watched Return of the Jedi on DVD. After that I reclined the seat and got around 4 hours sleep. The Superb 2 makes for a good living room and bedroom  :D

My S3 is even better now I have digital telly to watch whilst skiving.

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I have a simple question that I have failed to find the answer to: Does the DVD player play CDs, and if so, also when not stationary?

Yes, it will play Audio CD, MP3 CD, Video CD, DVD Video, DVD MP3.

So long as the infotainment is switched on it will play the Audio from any source - regardless if stationary or moving.

It is only the video component that is blanked off so long as the vehicle is in motion. Audio continues unaffected.
