Engine Help Please

Good evening all, I am just in need of a little engine info please.

Is there likely to be any difference in a Fabia Mk2 2007 1.2 HTP engine & a Fabia Mk2 2009 1.2 HTP engine please?

They have different engine codes, but not sure what they mean.

I had multiple problems with the 2007 engine (multiple unsolved missfires etc.) & am wondering if the 2009 engine would be any better.

Any constructive help & info would be most appreciated please.

Really need more information on this........

 

Do you have in mind the possibility of changing the car to a later model (ie 2007 to 2009?)

OR

A possible engine swop if they are compatible?

 

I do not profess to know the difference between the two engines, but would say that the core engine itself is not likely to be the root cause of your unsolved problems. Your 'unsolved' misfire problems etc will for sure be a result of ancillery components failing.

We need to know what you have done to try to correct these problems - and who did the work - and in particular what parts were fitted (and if they were genuine skoda parts.)

On receipt of this information, the forum can give some better based advice.

Finally, have the faults you reported been fixed? - or is this a continuing problem?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am looking to change my car for a 2009 model. My 2007 Fabia would not cruise at 60+ without the engine management light coming on & the car going into 'limp' mode. Therefore being imposible to drive on motorways.

It was showing multiple missfires on all cylinders, the largest number being on no.3.

Since February the following has been done to try & sort it:

New coils, spark plugs, injectors.

It's been 'Terracleaned'.

Compression/leak tests....all normal.

Head off, checked & skimmed, as they thought a valve was sticking.

ECU sent away to be tested....no faults

Specialist auto electrician gone over all wiring....all ok.

And after all this, the fault is still there :(

Fortunately the dealer has been excellent & paid for all the work.

So, now I'm looking to swap it to a 2009 model. I'd like to stick with skoda as I have been pleased with previous ones.

You certainly have had a trip into auto hell!

This may sound very silly, but can you please carry out the following simple task very late tonight. (no, this not a wind up)

 

In the dark, get someone to start the engine - and rev up several times.........while you look under the bonnet (taking care of course). This is a simple but very effective way to see any electrical tracking that may be taking place. Years ago we had a 'dark room' in the garage, and you would be surprised at the firework displays that were observable. This stupidly simple check identified/solved many misfire problems.

Do the simple things first. Next check is to look at the underbonnet loom condition, particularly where it passes tightly around fixed components.

You did not mention if the parts used were genuine skoda - we need to know this.

That sounds like a really good idea. Unfortunately I don't have the car with me at the moment, it's still with the garage.

Sorry, I'm not sure if the parts used were genuine Skoda or not.

To be honest I'm really nervous about having the 2007 Fabia back, all this has knocked my confidence in it. Hence looking to purchase the 2009 one.
