Autobrite-Direct UK Back to Basics Day

At the end of September I attended the Autobrite-Direct UK Back to Basics Day at their HQ in Lowfield Drive, Wolstanton, Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire.

As in the name the course is aimed at teaching basic skills so ideal for a new owner that wants to keep their pride and joy spic and span.

The day started with registration and payment of the balance (£30.00) of the £50.00 fee for the day's course and a prompt start at 09:00 when 2 of the attendees cars were chosen and we began with Wheel Cleaning, followed by decontamination and tar removal and cleaning the wheel arches. This was followed by an introduction to the use of a Snow Foam lance and the snow foaming of the vehicles, we were experiencing some very strong sunshine so one of the vehicles got another coating of Snow foam whilst the other was rinsed off and the Two Bucket method was described in detail and both vehicles were washed and rinsed off using a drying aid applied using the Snow Foam lance and then dried using drying towels.

At every stage the technique was demonstrated and then the attendees had the opportunity to have a go at the process with the instructors on hand to advise on techniques.

The art of claying was demonstrated and again everyone had the opportunity to have a go.

A training vehicle was then brought into the work area and scuffed up a bit and then the techniques of machine polishing were demonstrated and discussed starting with measuring paint thickness prior to use of the Rotary Polisher and then the DA Polisher, types of pad and polishing mediums were discussed and demonstrated and again everyone had an opportunity to have a go with both types of polishing machines.

Following the polishing waxes and glazes were discussed in detail and then cleaning of windows and application of a Glass Sealant was demonstrated to show its water shedding properties.

Tyre dressing was also discussed and application demonstrated.

The day finished just before 5pm when you had a chance to purchase any products that you wanted to with a 10% discount.

I'm no beginner at car cleaning and I learnt quite a few things so felt that my £50.00 was indeed money well spent.

It also gives you the chance to use some products that might otherwise not be your normal go to item and get a comparison of their performance.

If you are interested contact Clive Pepper on facebook and see when the next course is, you will not regret it.

I arranged an overnight stay in the Quality Inn, Hanley, Stoke on Trent which is only 15-minutes away through booking.com for just under £40.00 for a Twin Room on a room only basis.

Autobrite B2B day is worth every penny.....esp with the 10% discount on products.

Clive and Kevin doing the training are great guys - and now good friends too.

I went on this course about the same time last year; thanks for sharing this.

I'll see if the thread is still here on Briskoda to show some pics and my write-up of the day.

Might be useful for some.... and trust it's ok to drag onto your thread for the general benefit of all. :sun:
