after market alarm

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I did a search for this and couldn't find anything so hopefully I'm not asking an old question.

What's a good aftermarket alarm to get? one that works with that anti-theft mechanism the car has (that red blinking light)

when I bought the car it had an alarm, but whoever installed it did it very badly (or so my mechanic says) because it damaged something in the ECU or the central comfort unit (can't remember which, had to have it replaced.. this was a year and a half ago). And anyway, this alarm didn't activate the car's anti-theft thingy when it came on.

I want to put an alarm again because my neighbor's car radio was stolen and we park side by side and I want to avoid any thievery coming my way. but I want a good enough one and one that also works with the car's own mechanism.

thanks in advanced! (if you could provide ebay links I would appreciate it greatly)

1. You're old security system wasn't wired correctly. If I am not wrong, it was triggering the central locking system tapped on that button from the driver's door. This doesn't activate the 'safe' function, meaning if a window is down or broken, all doors can be unlocked/opened by pulling the inside lever. The safe function doesn't allow you to do this.

2. If you want to install an aftermarket one, I'd suggest you to go to a Skoda dealer and ask they. I'd go with the Viper ones, of course, no doubt about that, one which supports all that extra sensors (if not included), such as tilt motion, broken glass, air pressure (volumetrical) and maybe, just maybe, the backup battery for the alarm system. Don't go for the cheapest one, I think it is a bad idea. I've seen a lot of friends lockedout their cars or annoying their neighbours with false alarms etc.

3. Last, but not least, make sure you don't leave anything in the car when it's parked/over night. Nada, remove everything, even a jacket left on the rear seat might look attractive. Remove the detachable radio face thing and you should be alright. My concern here is about the boot, which IIRC, last time when I tested it, even if the car is safe, by pulling the inside lever you *CAN* unlock and open it.

4. Get a bright spot light with a motion detector. You can also get a (dummy) surveillance camera.

so I looked into those viper alarms that you recommended and I decided on this one:

but after some googling I found that I needed a bypass module thingy for the anti-theft lock to work.

is this what i need? http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEI-XPRESSKIT-DLPK-MULTI-CANBUS-INTERFACE-REMOTE-START-CAR-ALARM-BYPASS-MODULE-/181067303471?hash=item2a2873ca2f

thanks in advanced.

I don't think you need that module, that's for remote starting the engine. Mine is tapped on the door lock itself. The person which will do the job will need to take off the door hub and that's about all.
