"What effect the cheat removal had on my Skoda diesel"

I read some will only need a software update, but some will need new injectors and a new DPF, I dont want to lose my MPG, but on the bright side, some with cars on 50,000 miles (or more) getting new injectors and a DPF are having a result.

Pity VW dont authorise a remap to ensure maximum BHP/Torque just in case

My last Skoda was recalled for new injectors (MkII Octavia PD170) a few years ago.

They ruined the car, and many many more cars all reported on here with similar symptoms (poor cold starting, diesel mixing with the engine oil, blown turbo's and failing DPF's are just a few of the issues).

I would think very carefully before taking the car in under a recall where significant modifications are required.

I think the options should be:

1) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But........IF all that is needed is to remove the software that is ONLY used for the Type Approval test, then perhaps there's no worry in having the work done.

2) When it comes to "new" and "novel", it's best to be second (ie, don't rush to get yours done first like many people do with new phones!). If more work is needed than just to disable the offending software, and particularly if hardware changes are needed, wait 'till the experience of "early adopters" becomes available so as to see if there's any impact on performance, consumption or reliability. I say this because the modification will probably have been developed in a hurry and perhaps not subject to the as much of the usual reliability testing.

3) Particularly if not in warranty, seek out independent specialists dealing with VAG cars for service/repairs if you don't want the work done.

I bet there will be a number of reviews of cars comparing before and after for us to study!

(Seclares interest - my cars are petrol powered. I did try some petrol in a previous diesel car and the performance was terrible!)

On the news JUST

a VIN checker on VAG websites will tell us who is infected

affected

no, maybe infected is better

Q. If my MPG drops to 40mpg after the recall can I claim compensation?

The recall checker is for safety updates only, they may all say that... Try your VIN in the dedicated emission site

We regret to inform you that the Type EA 189 engine built into your vehicle with the Vehicle Identification you submitted, is affected by software that may cause discrepancies in the values for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) during dynometer runs. Your car is safe from a technical standpoint and roadworthy.

We are very sorry to have broken your trust and are working at full speed to find a technical solution. ŠKODA will cover the cost relating directly to this repair.

We will be in touch with you directly to explain what steps are required. We'll do any necessary rectification work at our cost.

Yours faithfully,

ŠKODA.

Yes and no.

The recall will be carried out whilst the car is in for any warranty work.

If you specifically tell the garage not to perform the recall but are still willing for them to perform the warranty work I can see them saying you can't have one without the other?
