Additional fees on AF quotes.

This is only my second renewal of an AF policy, so perhaps it's not something "BRAND NEW CUSTOMERS" have to contend with ( shades of the Nationwide "brand new customers only ad"), I've found with a lot of insurance and other renewals. Like a lot of motorists, I always check out the comparison sites before renewing my policy. it's amazing how many "little costs" some insurers like to try and add in . I moved to AF  after a renewal quote from my last insurer which showed a "referral fee" of £25 .I asked what this was ,to be told it was for referring me to that particular company. But ,hey I have been led to believe for many years that the insurance companies pay the broker a fee for passing business to them . So I moved.Next renewal, AF added this on to mine. I queeried this ,with the intent of putting my custom elsewhere ,when I was told that since i had not been charged it before, I'd not be charged it this time. This year it re appears as a "policy admin fee", putting what was a decent quote over the price of some other brokers, one of which offers a free breakdown service for less than £10 on the AF +"POLICY ADMIN FEE" quote.

POLICY ADMIN FEE - WTF.Or is it an extra charge for issueing a policy. I don't know, but I bet that if enough customers ask something like Watchdog, then perhaps AF might answer.

Hi,

Please find below a link to our website showing the charges we apply.

https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/pdfs/documents/termsoftrading.pdf

Most brokers do charge fee's along similar lines to ourselves however I will pass your comments on regarding them to my bosses.

Regards,

Dan.

Dan- I've yet to get a sensible reply from AF regarding the last year addition of "introduction fee" (I was always of the ipinion that the companies payed the brokers, and this was another way of getting more money from renewing customers, as I was never charged this as a NEW customer). One reason I moved to AF was when my renewal from another broker came with a "referral fee" of £35. First year ,AF did not cherge this, then ,as I suspect, getting greedy on renewals, along came the "referral fee". Last year, I phoned in to renew ,subject to this charge being removed. It was. The link to your site contains no reference to the "referral fee", which I suspect that FCA might like to investigate. I'd like to accept AF renewal, but the referral fee makes the quote excessive. So again the question- why the referral fee for customers renewing. Or is it a case of better terms for "BRAND NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY"?

And Steve- I can quite believe it.

Hi,

As per our terms of trading we normally charge a fee for either setting up new policies or renewing an existing policy. Supervisors or managers do have authority in certain cases to either reduce or remove these fees completely however.

I'm not sure what you mean by referral fee though. Your renewal quotation from ourselves would only include a fee as per the above paragraph. As far as I'm aware there is no referral fee to speak of.

Regards,

Dan.

This year it was a "POLICY ISSUE FEE", last year it was( from memory) a "referral/introduction fee". Year before that ,as a new customer ,there was no fee. One reason AF got my business, as that year a certain seaside town firm had decided this was a "nice little earner", and despite the fact that they'd had my business ,without claim for several years, added it on. This is year three with AF, and my policy is possibly now cheaper than at start , BEFORE the "FEE" in any name. I notice that none of the other brokers add this ,and TBH, AND TO ADRIAN FLUX credit, ( perhaps not what they want advertised, but again a credit to them, and possibly DAN,as latest e mail is from a DAN), THIS £35 has now been removed to keep my custom.

(The quote is from Dan's last post)

Ad what does a broker do, with policies-set them up ,or renew them. That sort of fee is like the checkout girl at Asda telling me that she has to add a fee for serving me. AFAIK, THE INSURANCE industry works with the companies(who underwrite the risk) accepting the premium and PAYING A FEE TO THE BROKER who refers the client .

  • 1 year later...

Again, I've had another set of "fees" added to my policy, making my AF quote almost the same as one from "compare the meerkats", so WHY ask a specialist for a quote. This year ,the quote ( after much prompting to AF) included a "policy admin fee " of £45 , which made my policy uch the same as any one of the Merkats quotes. Adter a complaint it was dropped to £20, but I was told ( in an aggressive tone ) that that was as low as it got. It's stil lower than the meerkats one, but I'll give AF fair warning that perhaps the ladies at Rip OFF might like to ask brokers like AF decide WHY to charge fees for policy admin/issue when the insurance companies PAY  them a commission. Might make interesting/ embarrassing listening.

In short -DAN- THE EXCUSES ARE RUNNING THIN ,AND NEED TO BE AIRED IN PUBLIC.( Of course- my policy could be reduced to £187, and I'd not feel te need ,this year to ask the ladies to raise the issue- it's up to AF management).

Please make sure to tell your bosses your poor customer service practises in regard to fees will make for no change on future customer retention from me - EVER AGAIN.

I expect the same from others that learn similar lessons with regard to "modified insurance".

I've learn Modification is for fools liking to line the insurers pockets with further excuses to get your danglies :) I've also come the conclusion as standard, maybe the Fabia 1 wasn't that bad out the factory (except for the seats).

You can quote me on that in the very extremely unlikely event you manage to change my mind.....but you won't.
