indicator bulb

Recommended Posts

Do you have the bi-xenon or standard halogen headlights? The indicators on the bi-xenon headlights (facelift model) are LED.

I hope the move from the pre-FL to the FL doesn't mean Skoda have adopted the same approach as they have with the MkIII Octavia.

You have to break open a cap on the back of the headlight and then buy a repair kit to re-seal the hole!

If the procedure to replace the bulb isn't detailed in the owners manual it usually means they want you to visit a dealer as it will be a (relatively) difficult job, i.e. on the Octavia you now need to remove the bumper in addition to smashing open the back of the headlight, crazy!

From the manual...

■ This Owner's Manual only describes the replacement of bulbs where it is possible to replace the bulbs on your own without any complications arising.
Other bulbs must be replaced by a specialist garage.

Normal headlights I think . They need their arse kicking for designing that! Indicator bulb has gone after only 1 year , does that mean I'll be dismantling the front of the car every 6 months

Took it to dealer , they had it for about 3 hours, bumper off , headlight out, had to order indicator bulb! Let's hope the other side doesn't go soon.

I changed mine from the front, no bumper removal required (I have HID headlights).

The rubber cup comes off, then there is a T20 screw that holds the bulb in.  Loosen that screw (doesn't need to come out), then the bulb twists to unlock and then comes out.  Unplug, replace, replug etc.

The passenger side was easy as the screw is in-board on that site, but the drivers side* was a pain as the screw was outboard.  I ended up having to use my bore camera thingy to see what I was doing with that one.

Here is a photo of the passenger side so you can see the screw.  If your kids have small hands, get them to help maybe (after they've finished coal mining or cleaning the chimneys).

Mine has halogen lights ,the headlight bulbs are accessable but the indicators are covered by a square box type affair, the rear of this "box" is right up against the metal joint of the wing and front chassis. So you're not able to access it via wheel arch either

Having moaned enough about  that , I've also got a mondeo mk5 , on further investigation that also needs the bumper removed or "loosened" by 4 inches to access headlight bulbs!

That's  fashion or style, maintenance will be a nightmare or plenty of extra cash for garages

It doesn't appear to be a standard bulb, it comes as a complete unit with the black plastic base and connector.

I've just had a quick search in Google and there are hardly any results for "12V / 24WY", a very unusual bulb...

Your right,  definitely a single unit although be warned there appear to be a number of 12v/24wy bulbs that have different bases.

I think it might be a PU20d or PH24WY. Super expensive though...

Yes I think PH24WY and yes LED equiv do exist, I bought some in 2014 from ebay for around $30 a pair.  They work ok and are pretty much as bright as the original incandescent bulbs. but with the faster rise time.

Watch out for ebay sellers who sell a bulb with the same code, but the plastic plug base is much shorter, these won't work.  Silver1011 is correct that the bulb includes the glass and the plastic base with a plug inbuilt.  I'd never seen these before but apparently they're quite common in Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep cars.

Have to access the headlight bulbs on SWMBO 53 plate Focus by removing the whole headlamp unit.... but to do that you have to remove the screws on the wheel arch liner, pull that out of the way and get a 13mm socket, with an extension bar, up to the bolt fastening the unit to the cross member. Naturally, one has to do this by "feel" as you cant get you head inside the wheelarch to see the darn thing.... Replacement is a reverse of this simple process...  <sigh>

The Mark II Octavia was great from this point of view. Removing the whole headlight took about 30 seconds and then you had all the access you could ask for...

Hi @wokwon, I don't suppose you still have the images you attached to your original post do you?

I had a quick play with the front indicators on my halogen 2011 Pre-FL MkII Superb headlight.

I removed the rubber dust cap, but the back of the bulb was a good distance inside the headlight, certainly no sign of the T20 screw you mention.

I managed to unplug the electrical connector from off the back of the bulb, which allowed me to turn the bulb base slightly, enough to loosen it, but it didn't want to release easily. I didn't have much time so luckily I managed to reinsert the electrical connector back onto the back of the bulb by feel only.

Once my hand was inside the aperture, my fist obscured any chance of seeing what I as doing.

If the bulb is indeed screwed in it would be good to see where the screw is located...
