MY16 MIB2 coding

Right! done most of the coding tick boxes on the new Octy Both fogs, rear tailgate etc etc. All slow with adaption maps before and after . Using 15.7.1 with one of Gendan's finest. All seem to be working with no lingering faults codes

When I went to reset some things - I couldn't. "Mirrors" is missing in mirrors and wipers (it was there as I remember setting "fold when parked to OFF" coming home lights don't and I may find others but haven't missed anything else yet. Thought I was going mad until I read the snippit about MIB2 menus disappearing

Question is how to get them back, is it a case of comparing the adaption maps before and after? I am fairly confident I made no changes other than I intended, and did no alterations near the menus that are affected can effects ripple through the system?

Before I go through the process of re-tracing all the steps thought I would ask the question

Any thoughts?

Not yet, if you make changes to 5F it seems to lose some menus.

Only thing I can think of is doing a factory reset of all settings from the Car menu.

Pretty sure someone else has logged it with Ross Tech, I suggest you do the same.

thanks for that, tried a full factory reset a couple of times with at least one for the "mirrors and wipers" with no change

Only did "Traffic sign from LA camera" and "auto daylight saving" from 5F so if it is that controller causing the issue not a huge problem to try a retrace back to std and see if that has any effect.

Either way I'll send one in to Ross Tech, the more they have the earlier they might get a fix, not lost anything drastic just nice to get it back

I'll post it up if anything comes of it

I had the same issue. I already logged to Ross-tech, currently still no solution.

Sadly you cannot just track back the changes, because you haven't made them  . At least those that made the menus disappear.

Later I will send you PM on how to get Mirrors menu back. Or at least, I have managed to get them back in that way.

Factory reset does not help.

I have flagged it up to Ross-Tech as well, gave them all the relevant scans and logs, initially got a response that was at best sarcastic and nothing since.

Had time to compare controller maps against my logs and am now sure no change was done that I did not intend and definitely did not change anything to do with the functions I have lost.

Until this is sorted it is probably best to stay away from VCDS on MY16 MIB2 for now. Not impressed with Ross-Tech at the moment with the response I got as we are only trying to help them fix their problem.

Best wait and see I think

Unfortunately not exactly round the corner otherwise I would! Have to admit I am a bit spooked if it is doing things not asked for. As the car is ok as it is I will wait and see if Ross Tech say anything

I am also a little confused. The sequence was I coded the fog lights after doing an autoscan and 09 adaption map. Another day I did another autoscan and a full set of controller maps then did the rest of the coding.

The controller map for 5f before I did any other coding (after the fogs on 09) shows the mirrors menu as not active, yet the infotainment menu was definitely there that morning, and I had not touched 5f other than the initial autoscan. I take it the autoscan could not do any damage?

I think what it does show (and lesson learned) is that maybe you should do a complete set of controller maps, not just one for the controller you are working on.

As already written: you cannot get them back because you have not made them.
Your scan is the same as we have it: everything is disabled, although menus do exist. According to my opinion there are two options:
- VCDS does not read correctly MIB2 units
- MIB2 units have menu configuration done in other way
The fact is that as it looks now, any ad. channel change on MIB2 unit leads to missing menu problem

Yes that is the exactly the way it is looking now looking at the information I have. We just need to find out which.

The fact that the Adaption map shows the menus as not active when they are, then when a change is saved the car reflects the mis-read map.

I am tending toward the fact that VCDS is not reading the state of the adaptions correctly and when any changes are made some or all of the differences are saved to the car along with the changes you made intentionally.

If that is the case even adaption maps before and after will not help you either as they will show no difference

nothing to do but wait for Ross Tech

Eagerly following this thread! I lost the drive green menu on my car making adaptions. I did find a post somewhere about the adaption to turn on drive green (think it was for a yeti) so was looking to see if I could use it to get the menu back but haven't had access to vcds again recently.

I also lost the "mirrors" menu. Didn't make a big thing of it with other posts I had, it's not a huge issue but glad to know I am not crazy!

Yes seen Uwe gave the post a like be nice if they acknowledged there is an issue! Will post my stuff as well

The plot thickens, I tried re-activating the "mirrors" menu in 5f as worked for mtl but it did something I have never seen before

Tried to set

(166)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror
(168)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror_over_threshold_high

Back to activated

It says the coding has been accepted but when it re-reads the adaption there is no change still "not activated". Coding log says adaption change made but adaption map says otherwise. Still no menu in infotainment. Something definitely not right

Yes, exactly the same as with mine. It still says not active. Though, please folllow the whole instructions, not only part of it:

(166)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror - ACTIVATE

(168)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror_over_threshold_high - ACTIVATE

(27)-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-mirror_0x0E,- DEACTIVATE AND ACTIVATE BACK WITH SOFT RESET

After this coding you should not do any coding on 5F, or you will again lose mirrors menu. The above procedure was successful on Columbus unit in Superb 3.

And, exactly this behaviour made me think that it is more likely the first option that VCDS does not read correctly MIB2 units.

Problem is with VCDS being Stateside, they see the latest technology after we do. It must be a nightmare trying to keep up to date when you can't get your hands on the technology.

True, but there is still a difference between trying to solve this or at least warn users on possible (or not possible but definite) side effects and doing nothing...

This issue is known now for at least one month. And I think that they have also an EU based team member.

And I am sure that they have received a lot of complete scans for these cars, so community is trying to help.

Anyway too bad, I was just thinking of buying a second cable when this happened, and now I will have a thorough thought about this whole situation and also check competition.

We all know that problems occur, but the way that you handle them makes a difference if the customer will be ****ed or pleased...

No I did do all the steps, it seemed to change the coding on (27) ok (Activated - not activated - activated) and they stayed changed each time as usual

but the (166) and (168) showed as not changed still "not activated" even though "coding accepted"

Menu did not come back as yet, no other coding done on 5F (or anything else!)

Will try again when I get time. it is a Columbus on a MY16 octy 3 so should not be that different

VCP is much more powerful, the GUI is awful, the support is pretty dire, but if you like spending time on forums and translating from German, Polish & Russian you can work out how to do things with it.

Tried again, each time coming out of the controller and a soft reset at the end, also tried a soft reset at each step, but the result is the same as before.

(166)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror
(168)-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_car_mirror_over_threshold_high

Do not change from "not activated" although it says the controller accepted the coding.

(27)-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-mirror_0x0E,

Changes fine both times for activate and deactivate

But cannot get the menu back. Tried a factory reset of the Columbus and a restart holding the off button.

Bit annoying as I would use those menu functions but its not the end of the earth and I can live without it until RossTech get a handle on it

Didn't realise that had gone too Iamholam. Sorry, I've been away a lot recently. Where is the yeti thread and maybe we can take a look some time soon.

I am guessing the problem you are seeing with the newer unit, is you are altering a setting in VCDS which it believes to be one thing, whereas you could be altering something completely different.

I would hold fire altering anything with the MIB2 until you can be sure that VCDS is working correctly with the unit, it maybe that if you continue playing you end up bricking the unit, or get it into a state where you cannot recover it. The dealer will not help in that instance as you are using a non Skoda authorised third party tool to alter key settings of the unit.
