Hi guys,

Greetings from land down under. I've been a few months lurker in this forum and finally decided to jump on board the YETI band wagon (yes my 1st :).

I was waiting for a MY 16 model but lack of choices and a current special 1.2% interest promo got me in to this MY 15 model. It has all the bells and whistle as standard (12 speakers, auto parking, bi-xenon lights, 6.5 AMUNDSEN touch screen with GPS etc). I'll upload photos when I take delivery this Friday.

in the meantime, do I need to know anything specific before taking delivery of the car? I've asked the dealer to print out all the info on the car for me. but anything else I should be asking?

Thanks for help.

Hi Yet001,

" but anything else I should be asking?"

Yes, Have they fitted a spare wheel? If not why not.

And, go over it with a fine tooth comb, check the detailing.

Then enjoy the car, if everything is ok you will love it.

Welcome to the forum. To get the plastic covers of the wheel nuts you need to have the little pair of plastic tweezers which are included in the tool kit. Check to make sure they are there as it seems they often go missing somewhere down the line before the car reaches the customer and if you don't check at pick up you will forget until you get your first puncture - and then it's too late, until the caps are off you can't undo the wheel nuts.

(Mine were missing when I picked up my Yeti and the salesman just said "I'll pinch them from one out the back...". Hopefully he remembered to order in a new pair for that car but who knows?)

I won't take snow chains without smaller wheels......if you're a winter wanderer.

In Vic you cannot access the 'managed ski fields' which specify diamond pattern chains only and can direct you to fit them as well.

The manual simply states you can fit them to the rear wheels though.........hmmmm.

Otherwise, welcome fellow Aussie and enjoy.

Hi Carlo, all Yetis in Australia come with a spare wheel. You do not have to ask as option.

Thanks Paul, I'll definitely check for the little tweezers.

Ryeman, I'll keep that in mind.

The only other options I am thinking of putting on the Yeti (and which are sadly not available in Australia) are the metallic pedals (including one for rest) and a funky looking cover for the keys.

Any more suggestions?

Another oddity with mine and others apparently

You have to select FM before AM in order to get the correct volume level.

G'day Yeti 001, according to your title you should have taken delivery of your Yeti, so we cannot expect a report and photograph for a while, because you are still driving around NSW with a huge smile on your dial, or are you heading across the nullarbor - my way?

Happy motoring, Banjobach.

Hi guys,

Took delivery of my Yeti over the weekend. I've not been able to put it through it's paces, but so far I am loving it immensely. The color was not my 1st preference, but I am glad I picked it. It has grown on me over last 2/3 days and I am getting a lot of compliments for it as well. I'll reveal when I do a proper photo session of the car. Any guesses :P

Just a couple of 'tiny' not so pleasant observations (keeping in mind the Yeti is my first auto and first turbo ownership):

1.  Turbo lag - I feel I need to push it bit harder in the beginning to get it going, But once it is rolling, it drives like a dream. So I need to push the accelerator hard first and then relax my foot a bit. Anybody else has similar experience?

2. Revs up while changing from park to drive - As soon as I go from 'P' to 'D', without any input from accelerator Yeti revs up to 10 KMPH at least. I wish it wait for some input from me through the accelerator. May be I am just being too silly here  :dull: . Similarly, when I take my foot of the accelerator, it de-accelerates rapidly. No smooth flowing. As soon as I take my foot of the accelerator it feels like somebody else just applying the break on my behalf.

Sounds like I am whinging? I hope not. May be after few more KMs on the odo, it will become bit smoother

Thanks Banjobach. You got me with Nullarbor... Only after I googled it :)

Pics and more updates coming soon guys.

Cheers.

"Creeping" - moving without any pedals being pressed is an inevitable and undesirable consequence of the design of the older type of automatic gearboxes.  Because it was inevitable, it got dressed up as a "feature".

With the electrically controlled clutches in the DSG design, the creep could have been removed.  I had an automatic with electric clutch and no creep and I liked it a lot.  The delicacy of control was wonderful.  Alas, I suspect that the "feature" has become so ingrained in the habits of automatic drivers, that VW decided to engineer it into their DSG design.

That said, it doesn't seem to have been too badly done.  It's not as strong a drive forward as I have encountered in older automatics.  Although I find it hard when trying to move gently, as there seems to be a delay between releasing the footbrake, and the creep engaging.
