I've just purchased a 2013 superb elegance estate 2.0tdi 170 bhp, and I have noticed a buffering noise like I have window open.

The noise starts at around 35mph.

Today I sat in the back while the wife drove and noticed how firm the suspension is and how I could feel a slight vibration through the rear seat. The buffeting noise wasn't so bad when I was in the back but it's annoying.

Does anyone have any ideas?

My local skoda dealers say it's tyre wear but there are new tyres all round and all seals and trim are true.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have rear tyres that have the dreaded saw-tooth wear (inconsistent wear around the circumference). This can happen even when tyres have a lot of tread.

Try moving back to front and front to back and see if noise changes (it wont go though!)

Hi,

My 62 plate  Superb Hatchback/Saloon 2.0 Tdi 210 bhp is also suffering with this same buffering noise.I mentioned it to my Skoda garage when it was last in for service, they said nothing wrong. I am on Pirelli 225 40 ZR 18 all round, the tyres are worn but still good for a few more thou.

The car has done 70k plus  now. The noise varies depending on road surface, so I have a feeling (and hoping) it is tyres and not bearings.

I have had a demountable trailer tow hitch fitted last year at the rear, which involved some cutting and removal of rear spoiler. I wondered if this

is causing the rear spoiler to flap at speed? Hopefully it's just tyres. Anybody have any recommendation for quiet tyres of this size?

Highmiler.

Further to the noisy tyres saga.

I took my car to a Kiwi Fit on Sunday and they moved the back tyres to the front and front to back, result even more noisier so definitely the tyres and not the bearings or flapping  rear spoiler.

Took the car to SMS this morning, they checked the tyres and pointed out uneven wear which they called cupping on two tyres, ordered two new Pirelli's to match the rears and asked them to do a complete alignment test on their Hunter machine.

Test showed an anomaly in one rear and one front, adjusted these and fitted new tyres.

Car is driving like new again , no more noise.

Highmiler.
