Can the trip computer be installed in a mk1 fabia classic?

i've got another SDI comfort and elegance TDI to get parts from, obviously the clusters will need swapped over, anything else? i'd assume it'll need coded??

cheers

Not sure you need to change the instrument cluster but the thing to watch is the convenience module which is up left of the OBD posrt area. There are 3 types and the least of them won't support on board computer functions.

If you change the cluster then you will need the immobiliser recoding or the car won't run. If you have the little plastic tag with the 4 digit SKC for both cars then it can be done with VCDS, otherwise you will need the dealer tool or something like vag tacho.

Yeah I've got something in the back of my mind telling me that you don't need to swap the cluster itself just the comfort module and the stalk (with the buttons on).

But I could be wrong!

I think you will need to swap the cluster over.

The left hand LCD on a car with a trip computer is different to the basic one with just a clock.

You can see they are different as the trip computer LCD has space at the top for the MPG icons etc.

Since you have all the bits to hand - could you confirm for us that the original display needs to be replaced before going to the trouble of making the change ?

yes, i believe it will do, both clusters look identical though

if it doesn't i will let you all know
