Rear wiper on 2006 estate.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have read many posts about the rear wiper motor going but none seem to cover the fault I am experiencing.

I went to use my rear wiper yesterday and it never went but I noticed that the door open light flashes on the dash. The relay sounds like it is clicking and the wash pump powers for a second but no wiper movement or fluid. It worked after an hour of driving but it has faulted again with the same flashing door light.

Any ideas of what might be causing it? The washer nozzle is at the top of the boot so I can't see that motor will have faulted due to the usual faults.

Thanks

Calum

Sounds like a faulty boot lock mechanism, it's common for the washer pipe to come adrift and pour washer fluid down into the locking mech causing it too fail. The micro switch which tells the car the boot is closed is part of the lock and the wiper won't work if the car thinks the boot is open.

Thanks for the reply.

Is the micro switch easy to replace or is a new locking mechanism the way to go. Not stripped the trim off yet, looking like that is this weekend'sjob

I've not used the rear washer for a long time as it doesn't work (think the pipe has disconnected). I also have an estate model and find the boot lock makes an odd noise every time I open the boot... It makes a quick whirring kind of noise and I'm wondering if washer fluid has caused this? My friends VRS estate doesn't make this noise and the boot unlocks as soon as you press the button without any delays.
