Hi Ben.  Why not look in the online autotrader to see what sort of price they are going for. There are always plenty of VRS TDI on there to choose from. You will then get a good idea the price you might have to pay for a good one. Al least there are more diesels than petrol models to pick from. Took me over 3 months to find my TFSI and I know I paid over book price for it at a dealer. Was worth it mind!

Hi Ben welcome to Briskoda. Have a look through the classified section and online as said above. This will help a great deal. Also make sure the car changes gear smoothly without any odd noises. As the DMF has been known to fail which isn't cheap

My old 2012, vRS CR 170 with 36k miles Full dealer history. Front/rear parking sensors/ spare wheel kit full Kenwood DNX521DAB upgrade and sunroof went for around £11,500 a couple of months ago via an independent with a full 12month warranty.

So a car 3 years older should be a good few grand less IMO

Pre-FL or FL?? If it's FL with DRL's I would be looking to pay absolute tops £8.5k. I had my 2010 vRS DSG estate on Autotrader for 6 weeks in July started at £8295, dropped it to £7995 & then finally £7795. Only went it hit £7795 did I get enquires - grand total of 2. And this was before the VW emissions scandal broke. Admittedly it had done 92k but trust me it is a 'good un' based on the servicing regime and money I've spent on it. Without question it'll be in better condition than some cars with 50k on them.

Therein lies the consideration for you - do you solely focus on mileage (and let's be honest if your talking about a diesel car that's six years old having done an average below 10k per annum has it been run properly?) or do you focus on condition??

Best of luck with your search.

I enquired about this a few weeks ago as I was torn between diesel and petrol.

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-Skoda-Octavia-2-0-TDi-VRS-Diesel-Hatch-Immaculate-58k-Miles-FSH-MOT-/252150706079?nav=SEARCH

(I opted for petrol in the end due to low mileage and short trips) but they started at 9k.. It's been on for nearly a month and not sold, but I reckon a cheeky 8k offer may sway it..

I did offer 8100 about 3 weeks ago and he refused.. But with no takers up to now, it's a buyers market !! Just depends whether you want the piece of mind of a dealer / trader warranty. I know some people aren't bothered, but it's a factor myself so bought main dealer in the end due to the 12 month warranty.

Thats because is has DSG.

If it was a manual you would have had much more interest. DSG is fine if you plan to buy a car in warranty and sell soon after the warranty runs out.

People looking for a used bargain thats gone plently of trouble free miles left in it will avoid DSG and with good reason. When they go wrong (which they do!) They can be a big money pit

Well I'll be keeping my money pit - only thing is cost me outside of the normal servicing routine is a failed turbo actuator - and I'll report back when it's done 150k & 200k (fingers crossed) trouble-free miles on its nasty, nasty DSG gearbox. I'm aware of the complexity and potential cost of a failed DSG that's why the DSG oil service is done without fail every 30k.

Like everything in life it's horses for courses but I wouldn't be without an auto for the daily grind. Sitting in stop-start traffic week in, week out (which doesn't escape any of us) changing gear in a manual is so last season and a complete pain in the a*s!!!
