Oil and service intervals

It would appear so- it'll all those people fighting online for a fat frier and a tv!

My post should have read-

I'm getting my vrs estate tomorrow and will want to do an oil and filter change right away.

However, I'm coming across info about variable and fixed servicing and different oil grades in respect of this.

Some retailers coming up with 0-40/5-40 or 5/30..!

Just wondering what's the craic with this and what's best to use?

I always service my motors bang on when they're needed, usually at half the oil interval with my older motors in the past.

Thanks!

My vRS is on Fixed servicing, 15000km or 1 year. And if I recall correctly, they all are (correct me if this is wrong).

For fixed Servicing, oil with specs VW 502.00 (5w40) are enough. You can also put VW 504.00 (5w30).

I use 5w40 because I've noticed a slight reduction of oil consumption compared to 5w30.

mine is variable servicing, there is a different code in the front of the book..... up to now I have changed every 10k anyway, as my car gets thrashed, but this winter I have had no money, passed 10k, checked the computer, and it says I have 7,000 miles before it needs servicing..... as I'm just pootling round until the next track day in spring, I'm leaving it until then...

I prefere 5W 40 .... 40 being a bit better at holding up high temps than 30.... on track my oil temp will generally run about 120C.

Anyone else have an opinion on the 5W/40? I've been pondering using it myself, given it isn't summer yet, and I've already seen a few days in the mid 30's Celsius....

I'd generally prefer to use the 504/507 rated oil, but haven't seen any available anywhere for 5W/40. If I was to use it for the warmer months, it would only be for six months and 7-8000km, so I'd presume 502 spec wouldn't hurt.

5w/ 40 Full Synthetic to VW502 00 will certainly not hurt.

Many 5w 30 to VW504 00 will not hurt, but maybe just avoid the VW / Skoda recommended  Castrol Edge 5w 30 which is over rated,

and under performing in Twinchargers.  IMHO.

Looks like I've started something here-

I was contemplating running Fuchs Titan Pro S 5w-40 which is an Ester Synthetic oil, it'll take a lot more punishment.

I run the 10w-50 version of it in my Escort RS and that gets thrashed no problems.

0W-xx engine oils are better for short trips and cold engine starts, so I'm using Mobil 1 New Life 0W-40. It's a classic ACEA A3/B4 full SAPS engine oil with very good parameters in the technical datasheet. The 11,8 TBN number is one of the best on the market for a good price (ca. 8-9 € / liter). So, if you driving short trips, and you starting the cold engine many times in a day, this is a very good oil for your usage. Another good one is Motul 8100 X-lite 0W-30, but it's more expensive (12-15 € / liter).

Other than the fact that it is recommended by VW / Skoda (the engine manufacturer), do you have any basis for your Humble Opinion?

Yes vxh26 / vxh28.

Now Maybe Toll off,

and remember that VW / Skoda recommend the Plugs they fit, and the Updated ones,

and the Breather Pipe Valve and the Updated ones,

Then the Updated Engine Parts, and yet the Engines keep failing.

So some here have the cars, have had more than one, have had replacement engines,

had failed engines, used the Castrol Edge and the Quantum, and still had failures.

So seeing as the different oils work, like the better than OME Spark Plugs work,

whats wrong with trying to protect your engine with decent oil.?
