Obtaining a new Citigo PID (Navigon)

My Citigo is 3 months old. Unfortunately My PID was stolen from my car and there is no point in claiming on my car insurance.

I am having to buy a new one.

Does anyone have any advice? Ive seen a VW Navigon on ebay and am owndering if it would be compatible with my citigo. I have heard that they are.

Also I dont mind getting the older Navigon Model - I am presuming this would be compatible?

Should I seek advice from my dealership? they may have reconditioned ones.

get a garmin, the navgon ones were supposedly very poor! You can get a VW UP! or SEAT MII version, it doesn't matter

The Navigon touchscreen buttons along the bottom edge are carp.

The Garmin one is much better than the Navigon. The touch screen is **** poor on the Navigon.

If you can get a nearly new one that hasn't been registered you can register yourself for map upgrades for two years for £20.

I got a nearly new Garmin for a shade over £100 off eBay. Mine was SEAT branded but I did a full factory reset via the Garmin Fresh application and now it is Skoda branded.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I have just bought a VW Up! And it doesn't have the PID as it is the Move Up edition.

If I got one off eBay or the like, would it work?

Even if it's been coded to another car

Yes, it should work. Download the "Fresh" app from the Garmin website and perform a factory reset using the app. Then plug the PID into your Up! and it will adapt itself to your car.

I bought a nearly new SEAT branded Garmin device and it is now working as a Skoda branded device on my Citigo.

Just been reading on the Up! forum, that some additional wiring may be required if the PID was not specced from factory

Something about dremmeling a hole for the wires

Anybody know if this is right?

Remove the blanking plate on the top of the dash. If the gold contacts are present then you should be good to go. Plenty of members on this forum have bought PIDs for their lower specced Citigos that did not have one supplied from the factory.

They all have an OBD2 port and the same radio/CD player. It wouldn't make sense to differ the PID mount connector on some models, but hey-ho, car manufacturers do strange things sometimes. :)

The fitting of the mounting differs between countries,at least it does on the Ups used as hire cars in Cyprus. Several I have seen haven't even got a removable plate.

Well, I removed the blanking plate, and the gold contacts are there

Just bought a Seat version Garmin PID off eBay with Cradle and USB lead for £100

Hopefully I can change the Seat Splash screen to a VW one, and it all works OK

If not, I paid with Paypal anyway, so I should be covered if its faulty etc.

Will let you know how I go on, and thanks for all the replies

Quick update, PID arrived, did a full factory reset and plugged in car. Changed to VW as hoped and all is well.

Bought a 32gb card for my music and paired my phone no probs... just won't display texts for some reason.

Anyway, very happy and a nice upgrade for £100 :)

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated

I've never had texts on the pid, it will tell me I've got one but you cannot get the text up, and I don't think I should be reading it anyway.

My PID does show texts as well as reading them out and I think it's a setting you can turn on and off.

Setting on the phone or PID?

On the PID, there's a setting on there. To be found in the phone section on the PID, in the settings.

EDIT: find the relevant information on page 143 of the PID manual.

I have a Navigon & Garmin pid. I like to have one or the other plugged in. Now, I'm forever changing cell phones. Had Motorola G, Sony M4 Aqua, Samsung something 5 and had a devil of a time pairing up.

Now got a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 and connects to both fully, even reading out text messages. The only phone I've had that does everything.. Even had Windows rubbish phones, connected ok but couldn't read texts to me.

So I just bought a 2014 Seat Mii from a Seat dealer with a Garmin installed and when I select the ECOTRAINER option I get the message 'This function can only be used in the vehicle in which the device was first installed'.

I called the Garmin Navigon helpline and they stated that nothing could be done to fix this.

Anybody know something they don't ?
