Hi All,

Currently on my second Octavia which is generally ace but has suddenly developed a number of electrical issues all together which I suspect is something simple.... I generally have a go at most things but not sure where to start on this one...

Symptoms are

Dashboard

Warning lights on dash come on when indicating

when indicating left the engine management light flashes in time.

When indicating right the engine management light and the foot on brake light flash in time but faintly.

Bonnet open light glows faintly.

Electric Windows

from the drivers door panel:

1 drivers window goes down but not up

Passenger window goes up but not down.

Windows can be shut by holding lock on remote

Rear Window wiper

Stuck in up position sometimes moves when restarting car

Everything else seems to work fine....

Any diagnostic ideas or points to check would be appreciated

Thanks

J

Rear wiper motor is probably in need of replacement. It's a common fault and plenty of us have had them fail.

Clocks, could be something to do with the processor In the clocks.

I've had some clock issues myself recently and they are now off for repair.

Windows, I'd be checking that the switches are working.

If they work off the remote, then it's probably something switch related.

Thanks for the reply

It's just a bit strange that all of these things happened at the same time.......and following some really wet weather ,, Also car is usually parked facing uphill and the old MK1 i had used to suffer with leaves in the scuttle box drain, leading to water in the blower connector..

I had the door card off at the week end and checked for damp in the switches and connections but all dry.....

I'll check the back window wiper next......

Is there any obvious earth connections I could check?

Thanks again..

Water ingress / damp is the likely cause for all your issues.

The strange dash light behaviour is regularly reported at this time of the year as the car interior gets colder and damper...

Although it can also be battery related...

The rear wiper is also moisture related, a lack of grease, poor quality motor and a design which sees the washer fluid fed through the motor means they fail regularly.

The electric windows are a little strange, there is clearly power getting to them.

Car has given me more clues::

Ok Replaced Battery --- No change----

Started pulling it to bits at tail gate end  all internals totally dry, wiper motor seal all good...

Then opened drivers window and it could not shut it even with the key which was working before.....

I pulled off the rubber gator which covers the wiring loom between the A pillar and the drivers door. The top plugged connection showed suspect oxidisation so WD40'd along with other two plugs, bottom end of loom where it enters the car door was wet. and showed minor signs of abrasion but not through the outer loom cover.

Again WD40'd it and found Door Controls for Drivers window now worked!!! although Back left window did not...

Also Rear window wiper now working

So Currently problems are

Dashboard

Warning lights on dash come on when indicating

when indicating left the engine management light flashes in time.

When indicating right the engine management light and the foot on brake light flash in time but faintly.

Bonnet open light glows faintly.

Electric Windows Drivers door controls works on 3 out of 4

Unless  anyone has any better ideas I'm thinking of replacing the Driver door wiring loom

Thanks

Fixed this by changing the electrical part of the ignition switch....However still have all the other problems, I seem to have cured the only problem that had no symptons...

waiting for door wiring loom...
