Fabia II 1.2 Upgrade to Monte Carlo

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, might seem like an obvious question but I was thinking of an upgrade from my current Fabia 2013 reg 1.2 SE to a monte carlo 1.2 TSI. The only problem is i'm only 19 so i imagine insurance would sting a bit if i go for the 105hp one. Long story short I was wondering if it would even be worth the small jump to the smaller HP monte? Or should i bite the bullet and get the 105HP one if possible?

You might be better insurance wise buying and insuring a 105ps car rather than getting valid insurance with a lower power one and declaring the Mod of a Tuning Box or Remap at 19.

Best check which is going to cost less for insurance and include the cost of the Tuning box or remap in the equation.

There are good Insurance Brokers that sponsor this forum, worth getting quotes from them.

Maybe some will be along soon offering their services with a quote.

It's not always about the BHP. It is mainly around risk and the profile of your age group.

When I changed from my Octavia (granted I was 29, not 19!), I went to a more expensive, better equipped car with 20 more horses and I got an £80 refund on the remaining 6mths of my policy....

It may be worth looking at non monte carlo 1.2TSI as well to see if that'll affect the premium.

Or you could leave it a year. The price will shoot down once you've got another years no claims bonus.

True that!

I know im abit older (i was 21 when i got the Fabiain 2013) and with no no claims it was £800, then over the following years its steadily dropped to £500.

A year might save £100 or so.

Depends how much it means to the OP and if its worth it to him.

Id be inclined to spend the extra money if i wanted it that much though..

I've been with elephant since I passed my test, every year I've rang them with a reference to a lower quote and they've simply matched it. I went from a mk1 fabia to the Monte carlo 105bhp, got my no claims up on that then last year purchased a VRS and the renewal is around the £500 mark mods declared.

Elephant also do a bonus accelerator, you buy a 10 month policy and get a years NCB added at the end. Also, if you live with your parents have a hint about a multi car policy with Admiral, I just insured a 1.5petrol turbo 160ps mondeo mk5 for £148! With multi car discount, when the wife's car is up for renewal you transfer that to Admiral and pay to the end of the mondeo policy (pro rata) then reinsure both at the same time, plus the wife's car would have 3 months between the end of her policy and renewal of mine so they will charge her £50 for that 3 months but give her another years NCB in that 3 months.
