Anyone know anything, Fixed price Clutch Change

Recommended Posts

I was reading somewhere the other day about Skoda offering a fixed price Clutch change, I spoke with local dealer and surpise "we know nothing about that, the parts cost more than that" so off to Skoda Customer services UK again "we now nothing.... " was heard.... was it a limited offer or have I misread the post ????

Thanks for any advice

Now the next question is does anyone know if these prices are still valid offers ?  AND where I can find it in print or something Skoda or the dealer would be able to authenticate,

I was basically called an idiot by one dealer today who seemed to think he knew everything in the world about Skoda !  Maybe he did know alot of information but there is a way to speak with CUSTOMERS who are simply inquiring about these things.

I believe that it's up to the individual dealers whether they offer those deals or not.

Copied direct from Skoda.co.uk - "Fixed price servicing is available to customers at participating SKODA retailers only"

http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/default/

Sadly it also states offers can be amended or withdrawn without notice.

It could be your local dealer is not participating in the deals.

Just checked the skoda website and yes it does indeed take me through to their address details so by that I assume it means they are a participating dealer, the rest about can be withdrawn etc is fairly standard offer talk I think... Thanks again for your kind assistance with this information.

I must admit I was livid when this idiot at the dealer was telling me I didn't know what I was talking about, luckily he was not within arms reach !  It takes alot to get me hacked off but he pressed my buttons big time...lol.... he went on to say "no way would they be doing it that cheap, the parts cost more than that"   you gotta love the dealer knowledge when it comes to pricing things by the swift intake of breath through the teeth and following statement " bla bla bla"

Thanks again brill info, I can now go and stamp on their desk with my wallet tomorrow..lol.

If the service advisor is unhelpful. Politely request to speak to the service department manager or the dealer principal.

They both should be well aware of the offers skoda UK have on and that they are participating in the deals

Sounds like the dealer might be trying it on. Interestingly, I had my dealer replace my clutch under warranty a couple of months ago and I'm sure the invoice total was more than the "fixed price" cost on the website.

Not my problem though, I wasn't picking up the tab.

Edit - just found the invoice. £984 Inc. VAT. I did have an evap valve changed too, but I doubt this added nearly £500 on top of the £489 fixed price clutch change!!

Thanks Jojo1985g, & ahenners... for your input, I have just sent an email to the directors of the franchise who will at this time remain nameless as I do not think its fair to name them on the experience of one member of staff... We'll see what they come up with now I have the information I needed but of course I did not have to hand whilst I was driving and on the hands free speaking with them earlier today.

Thanks all, I will follow up in due course with what the outcome is / was.

OK... next issue does the clutch offer include the DMF ???  Surely if they are placing a two yr Parts AND Labour Warranty on the fixed price repair they would have to be changing all 4 components, DMF, cover, plate, bearing ??   I would be very surprised if they would only change the three basic parts in view of the trouble known with the DMF.

I just rang one dealer got the young lady and asked the question, do you know if the fixed price includes the DMF.... Oh no she says thats about a £1000 on its own !  so how does one get any sense out of a dealer with this type of response, surely she should have said I'm not sure sir I will make some inquires and call you right back

So I think off to Skoda UK customer services.... trying to find their number on their web site using the contact us and website error.... I am destined not to have this job done I can tell !

A colleague's father has a MkII diesel which has just had a new DMF and also included a replacement clutch for £1100 at a Leicester Skoda dealership. The DMF replacement alone was supposed to be £1500 but they offered a combined clutch & DMF deal for £1100. You might be able to get the same deal nearer to you.

OK... So finally got someone who was willing to answer the question, still unsure if thats correct but...

The DMF is NOT part of the clutch apparently, or at least according to Skoda Customer Services today, (although its my guess that it suddenly may become part of a clutch if you were to take your car in and ask for a clutch change, expecting them to have only fitted cover, plate, and bearing and suddenly they are charging you for a DMF they've fitted as part of your "clutch change" although you didn't ask for one)

Apparently its part of the engine ? so that must make an intake manifold part of the engine along with anything else that BOLTS on to it !

So ONLY half a job then Skoda ? but they are happy to give a two year warranty on the clutch.

Oh why did I buy a skoda

Just checked the CAP value and the clutch and DMF is over half the value of the car.  Maybe I'll break the car and make more selling it for parts, based on the prices people charge for things like:  engine £1000, gearbox £600, haldex unit £300, abs pump £100, turbo £150, alloys and good goodyear tires £150, doors and panles £400, etc etc etc...  worth more in a pile of bits than one lump

So its Monday, its raining, the world is ending, time to put the kettle on me thinks !

Just received email quote from a local independent VAG specialist whom I have used previously £715.32 inclusive of parts labour and VAT  (all parts manufactured by LUK inc DMF)  AND they supply a loan car for as long as it takes, why did I waste my time with main dealers. Lesson learnt !

Ahhh, see how a cuppa clears the negative vibes...lol

I'm sorry but I've no idea why anyone would want to take an out of warranty car back to the main dealers for any work?

I use a trusted VAG independent (run by ex-VAG staff), who charge a fraction of the cost.

The last straw, as far as main dealers are concerned, was when after completing a routine (and expensive) fix a good while ago, their "free health check" failed to reveal two of my tyres worn down to the carcasses, along the inner edge. The printout told me they were fine!

I won't be coming here again, I said to myself.
