Is an ABS pump swap a DIY swap or require a garage to do?

Recommended Posts

I've been toying with the idea of doing an ABS swap to get HHC and XDS in my 58 plate car. Is this something I can do at home with the correct pump (£50-80 off eBay!) and does it require anything other than the pump swapped and coding?

Thanks

Me and my dad did this to mine about 9 months ago. I saw after we'd done mine that you can buy genuine bungs and covers for the pipes and pump to prevent contamination during the change. The only issue we had was with one of the brake pipes, and getting the alignm, ent right for the nut to catch, obviously didn't want to strip the new pump! lol.

If you have VCDS there is a brake bleeding procedure but beware it does use a lot of brake fluid, so make sure you've got enough to hand!

Once changed and the brakes bled, you need VCDS to go through re-calibrating the steering angle sensor, etc. before the coding will be saved, (Thanks go to Eddie-NL for his advise on this, and we were stuck at this point!), the procedure for this can be found on the Ross Tech website.

There is one potential issue you should look into.

In your BT thread you gave an autoscan with the following ABS pump:

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK60-F.lbl
Part No SW: 3T0 907 379 A HW: 3T0 907 379 A
Component: ESP FRONT MK60 0102

That shows as MK60 and I believe you'll be looking to fit a MK60EC1. If this is the case then you might have issues with brake pipe sizes as they changed between the two.

Assuming these pictures are correct it looks like this is the case.

Edit:

Just to avoid confusion, it's the centre two connections have switched sized:

- On the MK60 it's large, small, large, large

- On the MK60EC1 it's large, large, small, large

I think the other two connections which aren't shown stay the same.

Thanks Langers; this was the sort of information I was after. It probably is a no go then and just wait for the next car to have it.

I suppose I could try and get a good look at the pump and check its layout
