Is that pressure bleeder any good then? I tried one that was meant to suck the fluid from the nipple (lol) but it needed the nipple to be so loose, it caused air locks.

Yes works really well! No mess either. I've used the vacuum type and they are rubbish in comparison. Ended up before using PTFE on the nipples to stop it sucking air.

Also it required a lot of air so my 50ltr compressor was running flat out.

The only down side i found using the pressure bleeder was dropping the reservoir cap into the engine bay and having to remove the under-tray to get it back! :doh :D

Coolant Issues.

The state of the coolant and the expansion tank have been anoying me since i purchased the car, the previous owner had decided to use the dreaded rad weld!

First off all got the car on the drive so not to get the garage all wet!

26023253022_2b8e952b59_k.jpg

Old expansion tank and yummy coolant.

25842935090_34705f2c69_k.jpg

25511021024_76ed174013_k.jpg

Out with the old.

25842944410_7ceced3a31_k.jpg

God dam rad weld!

26023283062_209dd68206_k.jpg

Thermostat out to change.

26023291262_e917cb4aa9_k.jpg

25513202663_778bb88055_k.jpg

I attemped to clean the tank but it was pointless so popped to ECP to grab a new one and some rad flush

[url26115838505_7e283caffd_k.jpg

26089898646_2e2af3028c_k.jpg

This was the water after the flush! Excuse the oil that came from my dirty bucket and not the car.

26049492511_a00377811e_k.jpg

25511083444_17d200b3ec_k.jpg

Filled back up with G13

26049513631_20661c9adc_k.jpg

26049510481_85b930e415_k.jpg

Hopefully the coolant will stay clean now, i flushed the system about 5-6 times so im now a master at removing and reinstalling the thermostat!

Knowing my luck now ive removed the radweld something is going to start leaking! But i would rather do the repair properly! People who use radweld should be shot!

good job on the brakes, mines need a full overhaul, the braking is nasty, can i ask where you got the slider pin grease from as id like to stock up and get round to freeing off the brakes all round and also the brake bleeder, i use the proper machine in work but im not paying for a brake fluid change everytime i want to bleed them, ta

Nice job on the coolant change & flush. Anytime i do a full coolant change and flush on a new car i often change the header tank as well.
Always nice to check the level and see the nice colour of the coolant in a clear bottle.

Nice to see the car getting the love it deserves. The attention to detail is what separates folks running these on a shoestring and someone who's got pride in their work.

Those front discs were awful, what did the dealer say?

Cheers buddy, if its worth doing its worth doing it right!

Ended up getting £200 back from the dealer to cover the price of the parts. So I've gained a 312mm brake upgrade and all new discs and pads all round and some money in my back pocket!

So I spent a full day on Sunday giving the Fabia a good exterior detail.

Sorry but no before pictures because my DSLR battery was dead!

New goodies to add to the collection.

25608599694_2019579ef7_k.jpg

Started out by giving the wheels a pre-wash with normal wheel cleaner, as you can see lots of burnt in break dust.

26213370775_8b2e08a135_k.jpg

26213382795_45865b4b4d_k.jpg

So time to test the Iron-X

25610722303_ec57e0aa95_k.jpg

WOW

25610748183_cb05eb3765_k.jpg

26147102791_4320e168b3_k.jpg

25610752093_7139e1ad12_k.jpg

25608647374_9d78040f3c_k.jpg

Well after a quick sponge over and a rince this was the result!

26187608536_5e62831f05_k.jpg

Looks like i have found my new wheel cleaner from now on! Im hoping to get the wheel's refurbished in the next month as they are starting to show their age!

I then washed the car with the two bucket method and a wool mitt using some Demon Wash Snow Foam shampoo.

Then i proceeded to clay the car with some Bilt Hamber medium clay.

25608650804_f406039b77_k.jpg

26213497005_56a62f923c_k.jpg

Well i found some smart repairs that's for sure!

Car after claying

26213421125_5289c249b7_k.jpg

26213433815_9834c38ca5_k.jpg

Then i washed the car again with the two bucket method.

Next stage was polishing, boy i need to buy my self a DA machine!

Chemical Guys - EZ Glaze with Acrylic Shine II

25610842563_f451e5d877_k.jpg

After a fair few hours polishing!

26187588996_8079db17c3_k.jpg

I then cleaned all the glass inside and out with Rain x 2in1 and it will also be sealed.

The trim on the car was treated to Auto Finesse Revive, yet again very nice product. Sorry but no pictures of before and after as i was running out of time!

Next up giving that fresh polish some protection.

Gtechniq C2 - Liquid Crystal v3

26213508855_ab969130f2_k.jpg

Lovely product goes on very easy and the protection is meant to last up to 8 months, we shall see about that! Beats waxing any day!

Once i had sealed the car the tires where treated with Demon Tyre shine and refitted my grill the exterior was complete!

Hopefully give the interior a good going over next week!

Nice work on the detail.. mine needs a paint correction session with a DA. Would love to do it myself - but haven't got the confidence or the coin to purchase at the moment.. might be something for after Summer.

How did you find it by hand - hard work?

Rear Brake Upgrade Prep

So since i upgraded the front brakes the rears have looked tiny in comparison, so just by chance a local set of 256mm rear brake setup off a Octavia VRS popped up at a very cheap price.

Here they are when i got them home!

So started on removing all the parts.

26289291030_82fa7cfea0_b.jpgIMG_6074.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

No problems in removing the sliders, nipples and the pistons moved free.

Start of the clean up

After

25959272103_8f8ed3862c_b.jpgIMG_6088.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Gave the carriers and calipers a blast with the dremel

More Krust

Leaves a paintable surface.

26496139361_520024c246_b.jpgIMG_6122.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Clean up of the discs.

26469886582_ed8e9d88ee_b.jpgIMG_6138.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Then painted VRS Green

26536216146_069892d006_b.jpgIMG_6157.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Gave the outside of the vented discs and centers a quick spray in silver to hopefully stop the worst of the rust.

26469896622_a1e6600d1a_b.jpgIMG_6163.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Stay tunes for more updates.

Rear Brake Upgrade Install

Excuse the state of the wheels, they are getting refurbished next month hopefully.

26469896622_a1e6600d1a_b.jpgIMG_6163.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

So car in the garage and placed on axle stands

26496165571_7dc0398477_b.jpgIMG_6179.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Caliper removed and disc removed.

26562249285_68b1c47320_b.jpgIMG_6183.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

This is when the fun started, the carrier bolts where stuck fast, the head just stripped out and turned into a right mess, after an hour of messing and trying various removing techniques i gave in and resulted to a 4" angle grinder with cutting disc.

26469914892_05aacf7fa1_b.jpgIMG_6184.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

26536239476_fa5bd41504_b.jpgIMG_6187.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Couple of cuts later and a hammer and the carrier was free. I had purchased new bolts before hand suspecting that these wouldn't survive removal.

25957257184_c4c7b00685_b.jpgIMG_6193.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

They were never coming out in a million years!

25959320293_2a3a7a5ea9_b.jpgIMG_6194.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

So got the carriers and disc installed with the new bolts.

26289355300_7fefe570c1_b.jpgIMG_6198.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Other side was just the same

25957265554_ede2ca56d2_b.jpgIMG_6201.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

26496183871_ab95ae516b_b.jpgIMG_6203.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Nearly finished.

26289361340_a98c23ebd2_b.jpgIMG_6205.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

25957269954_94cb6569c7_b.jpgIMG_6210.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Fully installed and bled, had a bit of a nightmare getting the rear hoses to seal again so ended up having to get new banjo bolts and washers to stop them leaking.

The paint job is not the best but its a improvement. The VRS green paint i have is an absolute nightmare to work with. When the weather is warmer im going to touch the front and rears up.

Hopefully the next change is going to be refurbished the alloys and new center caps, and now that the brakes are sorted and stopping the car very well more power is required!!
