Deceided that since the wheels where off i would sort the rear bump stops out, the rubber was split and the protective cover was hanging down leaving the shock exposed.

First off give the arches a quick clean while they where still on

So the cheap job of just sorting the bump stops out has turned into a money pit

The strut on removal was clearly past its best. Had not much resistance and didn't want to extent by its self :(

Also the rust on the rear top strut was concerning and needed sorting. You dont want rust taking hold in key structural points! Im glad i caught this early.

Quick wizz with the wire wheel.

So pulled the old shock's apart.

26709070196_b296cf6d00_b.jpgIMG_6352.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Then had a 45 mile round trip to TPS to pick up some genuine Skoda VRS rear shocks, ECP did stock rear shocks but they where for the standard Fabia and not the VRS. Surprisingly it only worked out at about £10 more for genuine with new lower bolts than Euro Car Parts.

26668610091_7e016eb06c_b.jpgIMG_6368.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

New v old shock here, both compressed and left to expand by them self's, As you can see, the old well and truly nackard.

The new shocks with new bump stops and covers and top mounts cleaned up.

Went and collected the refurbished wheel's today.

I got them refurbished at Wheel Tech Darlington, would recommend if you are in the north east, done a amazing job! http://wheeltech.org.uk/

Once i got them home i set out sealing them to hopefully keep them in tip top condition for as long as possible.

Went with Gtechniq C5 to seal them, the only downside is the product needs 12hours to cure so no pictures of the wheels on the car as of yet.

26641679722_2f8239bff9_b.jpgIMG_6371.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Leaves a nice finish on them after being applied then buffed off.

So tomorrow will get them fitted and give the car a wash as its been sat in my garage and got crazy dusty.

Your attention to detail is great, amazing job you've done, it makes all the difference!

Do you have a part number for the rocker cover oil seal, mine has a misting around so wouldn't mind replacing it.

I'm looking forward to doing some engine bay detailing after seing the plastics come up so well!

The Skoda part number is 06A103483D

The number from TPS was 038115315 came to a massive £1.26 :)

Well after being laid up for a week the little Fabia is back on its wheels!

Its looking like a crazy monster truck at the moment, think the suspension needs to settle or looks like the next mod is lowering! Should drop a bit, it was never this high before.

I noticed that the high standard ride height seems to transcend Skoda's product range.. not sure why? Yeti's are the worst due to there square'ish arches.

Great choice on the colour for the alloys! I really like them.. considering a second set for mine as I've got bored of the Ronals!

Are you pursuing the corrosion at all?

New Boots.

So this happened!

26770043141_8b7ed1b5d6_b.jpg20160504_173123.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Grr, massive screw in the sidewall, o well opportunity to replace with new!

Decided to replace all 4 with new Uniroyal Rain Sport 3. Could of got away with changing just the rear two but got a good price for doing all 4.

While at the tyre place got to have a nosy under the car while it was over the pit for alignment.

26232196934_6b29ac3e50_b.jpg20160505_124458.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

One of the rear connectors had fallen off so the lads put one on for free.

26837460655_c0ce8e32be_b.jpg20160505_124932.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Tracking was spot on, so no changes needed!

On the drive home at first i wasn't impressed as they felt quite soft and squidgy, but after a few more miles i came to like them, certainly improved braking and acceleration. Brakes can grab alot more before the ABS kicks in, so all in all im quite happy to say good bye to my Kenda Kaiser ditch finders!

So got home and gave her a quick wash.

26232892153_8963c290df_b.jpgIMG_6434.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Then went for another spin since the weather was so nice!

Going to be quite on updates for the next month or two, noting big maybe just some taking apart and cleaning and painting. A lot spent this month with the refurbishment on the wheels and now a full set of premium rubber!

I can recommend a nice cheap mod for you to do now to match your darker alloys ;)

A nice light tint on the now very white looking part of you rear light clusters :)

The lightest tint vinyl I could find on EBAY :)

Just done the clear part of the rear clusters with it.

i think i quite like it, plus i've always had red and tinted rear lights on all my cars - Punto, RST etc. so i might look into getting some.

Was it easy to trim to shape?

I cut a square piece over size for the clear part of lights, put it on then cut around the clear part with a stanley knife blade :)

Your doing a lovely job, but keep an eye on the budget.

It might have been better to find a less rusty one. Unfortunately that looks like its been someone's motorway commuter, bathed in salt, rarely washed, maintained on a shoe string etc, Kenda tyres, radweld, rusty sills....etc.

Are you going to try and get Skoda to pay for the sills to be repainted?

Drop links and Anti Roll Bar Bushes.

Was getting a slight knock from the front end and after doing a bit of research it was going to be most likely ARB bushes/Drop links. So for how much it cost decided to do the lot!

Started off by getting the car in the garage and jacked up on axle stands and front wheels off.

27137924696_895b447b49_b.jpgIMG_6626.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

The offenders!

27102596441_fea9177091_b.jpgIMG_6627.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

I decided to whip the wheel arch cover for easyier access as the plan at the start was to clean the arches etc.

26565035404_1af1163b7f_b.jpgIMG_6636.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

So on to removing the old bushes, what a pain! The drive shaft's prevent nice easy access! The bottom bolt on the passenger side can be got with a 13mm deep, on a short wobble bar with the flexhead 3/8 ratchet.

The top bolt, is an absolute pig, 13mm spanner is the only real option to get to them! Even once they are out you cant get the old bolt out do to fowling on the drive shaft!

The drivers side the top bolt can be got to by the ratchet but the bottom one requires you to jack the hub to lift the drive shaft out of the way so you can get in with the ratchet!

27075822872_5388e43a1c_b.jpgIMG_6644.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Went to TPS to get genuine ARB Bushes, old v new.

27138031746_d2ae6f3354_b.jpgIMG_6651.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

The bushes that came out are genuine so most likely the originals.

Next off was to whip the drop links off. Old V New.

These where non OEM so have been changed in the past.

TPS wanted £28 a side for the drop links so went for some First line ones from my local factors for £10 a pop, if they go bad in the future i will be replacing with Meyle HD ones.

27138039396_52ab124a1e_b.jpgIMG_6652.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

The fast easy way to removal the drop links if replacing is don't bother trying to undo just chop them with the grinder!

26896821360_0447d7f428_b.jpgIMG_6655.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Gave the saddles a clean up, acid etch then paint.

27102643441_db68f326d2_b.jpgIMG_6656.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Old bolts given a clean up to aid in easy installation.

26896830930_e23b9bb3a7_b.jpgIMG_6657.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

27171031715_53bb638b1e_b.jpgIMG_6658.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Installation was fun, a spray of silicon spray on the new bushes helps get the saddles back over them.

The key is to get both sides started then do the bolts up. If you try do one side then the other you will never get the bolts to line back up.

27102654431_af151d2eda_b.jpgIMG_6662.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Drop links change nice and easy with both wheels off the ground, no prying required.

27075879242_b01d245567_b.jpgIMG_6665.jpg by Daniel Kellaway, on Flickr

Ran out of time so didn't get to clean the arches, so that's a job for another time!

Took the car for a shake down and the slight knocking i had was gone and the steering was feeling a lot more sharp! Good improvement for only £26 worth of parts!

Great build thread :)

Heads up on the anti roll bar, if it is the original soda part with plastic collars by the bushes, they tend to break off. They updated the part to have metal collars, not sure when it was brought in. I had to replace my anti roll bar the other day, it decided to get friendly with the subframe on one side after the plastic collars broke!

My '04 has rust on the sills, its lived landlocked all its life and only touched 80k this year, seems common on these cars.

So yet again, i find my self chasing rattles. The rattle was getting annoying and sounded like it was coming through the exhaust tunnel so first off i got the car up in the air and gave everything agoing over.

The only thing i could find was up near the down pipe but couldn't really get to it from the bottom so decided to pull the air box and battery out and give them a clean in the process and try and sort this rattle.

So removed the airbox.
