1.4 52 plate Fabia issues

Recommended Posts

Hi All

First post as ive come across a few issues with my Fabia its only done 73500 miles and in the past week ive encountered a few issues.

One is the steering feels very very light as in i can kick my back end out doing 20 im not sure what is going on with it but it dont feel right. has anyone else had a simmilar issue?

Two is when i change gears occasionally it wont shift right as if the clutch isnt pressed down at all and between changes especially 2-1 it feels as if there is something stopping it from shifting?

Just looking for some possible reasoning

Thank you all in advance

Bear in mind that it's still a 14 year old car. It might have only done 5000 miles per year, but that's a lot of sitting doing nothing time. Low mileage does not always mean reliable.

I'm not sure what the ability to get the gar to oversteer has to do with steering weight? What you're saying is that you drive along at 20mph, turn into a corner or roundabout and the back of the car slides out? I would be looking at the springs and shock absorbers assuming the tyres are pumped up properly. On a car of that age it could also be that the tyres are the wrong sizes across the axle ie. A different sized tyre on the left and right of the car. I'm still not sure that would cause. It to oversteer at 20mph. 20mph isn't a lot of energy to get the car moving sideways with.

That does sound like the linkage just needs adjustment.
