Boot anchor point for MaxiCosi AxissFix car seat

I think the ISOFIX standards got finished about 2004, and became mandatory in the early 2010s, so the Fabia's too old to have had any of it designed in.

Some older cars have ISOFIX but without top tethers - VW were a part of the original standard so had lower fittings from 1997. Top tethers weren't standardised until 2004, so I doubt you'll see any pre-2004 car with them (and even then it was optional standard until the early 2010s), and as the Fabia was reaching the end of the MK1 line at that stage, they probably held off adding ISOFIX or top tethers.

You'll need to rig something up using the cargo hoops in the boot I think as mentioned above.

As you don't have top tethers, you might be better off looking for a "semi-universal" seat - these are ones with a leg that comes out the front and rests on the floor. This has the same effect as the tether - stops the seat from rotating in an accident.

I'd be reluctant to use the cargo points as an alternative to a top tether mount.

I know they are for securing down cargo but aren't really designed for use with a top tether car seat, so just don't know how solid they would be in the event of a crash. I had the same dilemma and ended up just going for an isofix seat which had the floor support.

The way I see it, if they were suitable for that use, either Skoda or the car seat manufacturer would tell you to use them.

At the end of the day it's your child's safety we're talking about. I didn't risk it.

This is the new version of what I went for:

Wow i didn't know any of this, or see the leg system!!

My Fab has the lower 2 isofix points, just push the seats down and they are there. Ive never heard of a top tether, i know people who use seats that are in just by the seat belt, thought these where "universal"

Luckily little lad is a big lad now, so i guess bottom isofix is fine with the booster seat?

Confusingly, there's universal (as in fits in anything), and ISOFIX's "universal", which means it fits any full ISOFIX (which should include top mounts). ISOFIX's "semi-universal" means bottom mounts only and some sort of bracing leg. There's also manufacturer-specific ISOFIX, which are seats designed for specific vehicles only.

As the kids get older they usually move on to a booster seat that uses the built in seatbelt for restraint, so ISOFIX is not really important for those as long as it's not just a lap belt, as the seatbelt takes care of making sure you are supported both on chest and waist so you can't rotate. As long as your (bottom only) ISOFIX booster uses the seatbelt across the chest (or it's own harness), it's good. The boosters with backs are probably best as they provide some side-to-side protection for the head on side impacts.

And then there's "ISOFIT", oh yeah and boosters that have their own straps, and also.....  :notme:

Jesus, im not surprised parents dont know what to do, its confusing whats the newest recommendation, and whats "old", whats safer etc while being so knacked and run ragged with the kids. For such a vital purchase, the commercial governing bodies are a embarrassment, there is a definite need for clarity...

- mine, has the belt across the chest, and fixed with the lower isofix. Lad is 4 years old.

With my isofix car seat you only require the top tether if the car seat does not fully support the seat. If there is no gap between the top of the baby seat and the car seat you should be fine. Does it say in the manual that it is necessary?

In our Qasqai there is an anchor point in the back of the seat which requires you cutting the back of the seat fabric with a stanley knife to reveal it, what a crap design that is
