1970 1.2 Octaiva Combi Estate RHD restoration project

Hi I am new to this forum and I was wondering if anybody could help.

I am the After Sales manager at Meadens Skoda, based in Hampshire, England.

We have recently acquired a 1970 1.2 Octavia Combi Estate right hand drive and it is need of restoration. However I have no idea where to obtain any of the parts we require. To begin with we need front and rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders and brake adjusters, flexible brake pipes, complete exhaust, steering idler, drive shaft gaiters, water pump, chrome trims, door trims and lots of other stuff. Basically it is a wreck but the boss wants it restored!

So my question is where on earth would I find any of the parts I require? Would it be case of finding someone in the Czech Republic that would know, or is there a place somewhere in the UK.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards.

Gary

Hi Gary,

There are a few places. Having had a chat to the skoda restoration team, it seems most appear and otherwise it's CZ.

They have a lovely model, similar age, quite a eye opener to drive on the open road in today's traffic.

Got any pictures to begin with to show the history as it goes?

Hi Colin

Thanks for your reply.

I don't understand what you mean though.

1/ Who are the Skoda restoration team?

2/ What do you mean when you say 'most appear'?

3/ Where about in CZ would I be able to obtain the parts I need?

4/ Also Who has a lovely model, do you mean the restoration team?

I'll post some pictures as soon as I work out how to do it! :D

It's probably easiest to get the existing shoes relined rather than trying to find new ones.

If you know the length of the flexi's, that'll be easy enough to sort, worst case go to a company that makes braided ones.

Exhaust, worst case - wait til it's finished then take it for a stainless.

It's always entertaining when a modern garage try to look at a real car - has anyone tried to find the OBD socket yet? ;)

Hi Freedom

I like your comment about us being a modern garage and all that. Seriously though, despite the fact that I personally see this as a waste of time, the boss is adamant that he wants it done. I am pretty adept at obtaining parts for older vehicles, I'm also very pragmatic and don't like to use the word 'can't'.

In addition to having the Skoda franchise we have been here since 1945 and being in the middle of the New Forest we get presented with all sorts of old vehicles to sort out in one way or another. However the only other vehicle we have completely restored is a 1973 Mini Clubman and you can still source every single part ever made for that. So thanks for your suggestions regarding the various parts I need, but to be fair you've only answered the easy ones and despite me posting it I pretty much knew the answers to the brake and exhaust problems, I was simply highlighting the extent of the problem.

What I could really do with finding out is where on earth do I get a water pump and all the trims for example. I bet there's is no one in the UK but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Cheers.

HI,

The restoration team, so far as I recall are 3 guys employed by skoda uk to keep the heritage fleet going. A font of knowledge and passion and a shed of untold boxes of bits.

I can actually see benefit in the old model. Emotional stuff. I like the sound of your boss :) He should call Oliver Horton, he restores old ones too, he'll know Oliver as principal at Hortons.

I'd almost bet money, if you had this in your showroom, everyone would look at it, regardless of any other purpose for the visit! Will it help sell a car, probably not, but this is the classics ;)

On a recent day, 10+ cars on display, all available to drive from 1900's onwards. No one-except me (I'd never been in a mkII Octavia) touched the post 2003 models, and so...

It might get you another step to a contact. I suspect most of these parts will be on donor cars, if all else fails, go mad!

Hi Gary,

Have you checked out Skopart in Germany? Have a look at www.skopart.de . You'll find part catalogues for various models front and rear engined. Otherwise there are guys in the UK Skoda Owners Club who have restored these older Skodas so will know where to go. But essentially you'll need to source parts from Europe rather than the UK.
