Picking up new superb

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I ordered my SE Superb estate back at the beginning of October 15, comms have been abit all over the place from the dealer. But was told to expect it in March, great finally end of the tunnel and means it gets a 16 plate. Last week was told it was in transit between port of departure and port of arrival, then yesterday was told it was at the dealership. Which is great, but now we are so close to March, i would rather wait till march to get it on a 16 plate. The dealership is been a bit funny about this, and is saying management won't let this happen.

So am just asking, why are they been abit funny about my request? Also anyone been allowed to wait by there dealer?

Cheers

Rob

The dealer only has a certain amounts of days - 10 i think from memory - to hand over the car, at that point they are charged for the car by Skoda UK.

This will be why they want you to take it now - unless of course you've already got an agreement in place for them to hold.

I am in the same position as you. They agreed to hold it until 1 March but I have paid for it.

I'm in the same boat. My dealer is saying if mine comes before end of February will be 65 plate. :-(

I really don't understand this year plate issue. Just retain the full build spec and the date it was built on the production line for when it comes to sell. Why leave your nice new car at the dealers where it could get knocked and looked over by prospective buyers ohhhh and then repaired without you knowing a thing. Go get it and drive the b******dy thing.

The issue is that all of the Used Vehicle Pricing Guides/Tools use the Registration plate i.e. 65 or 16 to value the vehicle not the date it was built so registering on the 28th February 2016 could knock money off the valuation over it being registered on the 1st March come Part Ex or resale time, this difference could be just a few pounds or hundreds of pounds depending on the vehicle and its original cost.

So whilst I agree with you in some respects I can also understand why its done, In fact I've asked for mine from the outset to be delivered on the 1st March and I have a motorcycle coming which I may have to pay for before I take delivery in March because it looks like it could arrive late February, but that's my choice.

You could also say that taking delivery at the beginning of the month means that you don't pay road tax for a period that you haven't used as you would if you took delivery at the end of the month! Again we are only talking a few pounds here but why give it to HM Gov they have enough of our money already! ;)

Nb The Road Tax comments are aimed at those buying petrol engine vehicles rather than diesels, I mean how they have the gall to charge £81.00 to tax a large motorcycle for a year is beyond me, but that as they say is another battle to be had!

Mine arrived yesterday at the dealers and I am waiting until 2nd March for delivery. I have already been sent my new registration number on a 16 plate.

My car arrived at the dealer in late January. The dealer called me to have the option to wait until March for a 16 plate.

I was tempted to take the offer but that would have left me without any mode of transport. The dealer got round this obstical by offering to lend me demo cars. This was a no brainier to me so I took the offer.

Had a city go and now got an octavia. They even offered to come to me to carry out swap overs of cars if needed.

I'm not having to pay for my superb until I have it. Demo car is only costing me petrol. My superb is locked in a secure area away from general public. I have asked the dealer twice if my car has to have any repairs after being transported and advised no. I also asked if anyone else has decided to wait till March and quiet a few are. If skoda uk are charging the dealers after 10 days of delivery it must cost walkers a fortune! But the would not be out of pocket I'm sure.

My sales man has been great thought out the whole process, I have no reason to think the wool is being pulled over my eyes and would happily recommend walkers at Kings Lynn.l, Will is my sales man.

I'm getting this sort of customer service, I'm happy and they are getting good reviews from me. Obviously the dealer must have some other advantage of waiting till march for me to collect my car but I'm not sure what.

I get a 16 plate, yay! Please note this is a British thing.

What you are effectively asking the dealer to do is store it on their premises for you, you are probably also hoping they will insure it against damage at their expense, don't mind paying their supplier whilst not billing you. Then you want to turn up at your convience ( even if it is a busy day for them) to pay for it and collect it.

Would it not be reasonable to at least pay for it before they are due to pay Skoda UK. If 25 customers all wanted to wait until March without paying, the dealer would probably need to find a spare half million pounds, so when you turn up on 1st March, you might discover a bankrupt dealer, and no car.

So how come the dealer in the post above yours can do it then. Holding one guys car since January.

Been keeping an eye on this thread, obviously this is down to personal preference, for me, having the newest reg plate has never been a priority, for me it has always been just about getting that new car and driving away, with regards to the vehicle value, I have actually got a better deal in the past, buying at the end of the month and just prior to a new reg plate issue.

Hi Guys,

I have had on order a new L & K 280 Estate with a few extras, well quite a few.

I ordered in mid Oct 2015 and it arrived at the dealers at the end of Feb 2016.  The dealer (Rainworths) asked if I wanted the car ASAP or wait until 1st March? I said I would wait as it is my own car not a company car, no problem he said.

I too have the Reg No. on a 16 plate and I am just waiting for the big day.

The car is being delivered to my home in Kent on a small truck and will take my PX away at the same time. In fact the car is coming on Friday 26th Feb, although I can’t take it on the road until Tuesday 1st March. - Should be able to read the handbook and set up Satnav,  Radio and Seats. I will give it a polish if it ever stops raining.

I too have not paid for it yet other than my initial deposit, so I think the dealer has been very fair, no I have no connection with Rainworths what so ever other than to buy my car from them. They did give a very good discount and a very fair price for my PX.

If interested I will give a full list the things ordered as extras.

Cheers for the responses, the main reason other than wanting a 16 plate when we are so close is that we are away on hol for 10 days and therefore won't be able to pick it up until beginning of March anyway! The dealer are been a little tricky, wanting emails when they agreed to the request which we have. I have come to the conclusion that they have already registered the car, but in the phone calls we have had with them this week haven't said anything about this. So just nipped down to the dealers to see if I can see my car with a number plate on!! And guess wot it has!!!

In all fairness, if my dealer called me up, told me the car was ready with a 65 plate and to come and collect it, I wouldn't cry over it.

Whether or not people want the newest plate on their car is a personal preference. I prefer to wait 2 weeks and get it on Tuesday March 1st. In fairness, I've been lucky on two counts: the car has arrived reasonably close to March 1st, and my dealer is good enough to hold it until then. In all fairness, I was told about this '10 day rule' but it seems they are tolerant to the extra days.

Because it's on a PCP, I am driving over there on Tuesday to sign the finance paperwork. I can only assume this means the finance with VWFS will be sorted and in place before they are obliged to pay for the car. Maybe that's why some people are able to wait more than 10 days, and others aren't?

Is it displaying a 65 plate then? How can you be sure it's your car?

If you have an email stating they'll hold it for the 16 plate change then throw that back at them, it's their problem.

Just wish my dealership had communication and customer service like yours! Only updates we had was after we chased them since we ordered in October!

Not had anything from my dealer, but I've got SUK on speed dial so I'm up-to date with everything. Roll on mid-March for delivery of my SEL.

Not just a British thing - we are the same here in Ireland. Our registration system is very similar, except our plates come out in January and July (We used to have just one plate per year in January but this changed in 2013). For example, this year our registration plates begin with 161 from January to June and then 162 from July onwards. Most will want to hold off as the new period gets closer in order to get the newer plate and of course secondhand car valuations are linked to this system as well.

My understanding is that the motor trade wanted it this way to stop a huge backlog of orders for the new registration when it only changed once a year so in an attempt to smooth this out it was changed to the current system of twice a year.

Yes, that's the logic alright and it works to a certain extent and there has been an shift in sales patterns in Ireland since it began.

When I ordered the car this question was asked and they told me that it do auto close it says so in the brochure. In the hand book it says only with KESSY fitted it does this. I informed the garage and they no it should auto close on my has they had read ALL the bumph and if took it back they would sort it for me, about an hour later the service manager phoned to say they would have to contact skoda has the could not find a prog to do this. I informed him that if it could not be done they could have the car back that I wanted this and was sold it with this facility.Has any one else had this problem and fixed it, the car has the 220 petrol engine by the way.

Hello. ^maybe create a new thread with a title along the lines of power tailgate won't close and copy and paste the above in to it so you get more members reading the post as the above thread is 12 months old.  Cheers

The electric tailgate works in slightly different ways depending whether you have KESSY or not. Regardless, you cannot close the boot from inside the car. The button by the gear lever will only open it. To close you must use the button on the tailgate it's self.

If you have KESSY you can stand at the rear of car (with the boot open and within about 2m) and press the boot symbol on the keyfob, this will close the boot.
