Service Schedule - What is Changed and When?

Recommended Posts

So to satisfy my curiosity, what is actually replaced and when?

I've looked in the service book and hand book, and its very nondescript. Skoda website says "...items will be replaced, if required. This will be determined by the manufacturer's service regime data." No where can I find a list of things to be replaced at specified intervals, but they can tell you with confidence that every other service will be £259.

So I can't actually determine what is changed and when - can anyone shed any light?

As an aside, mine went in for its first service today, 10k/1yr fixed. The service lady said to me 'an air con service is due on the vehicle sir'. At 1 year / 10k miles? I'll take the risk on that one, Jesus ******* titty Christ. It was the dead-pan straight-faced delivery that got me, I wouldn't like to play her at poker. I politely declined, but really I wanted to smash the place up.

That should be at two years.

It always used to be the following for a petrol, don't have ELSA to check current spec

Mileage based

10k - Oil and filter

20k - Oil and filter (pollen filter on some models) and inspection

30k - Oil and filter

40k - Oil and filter, pollen filter, air filter, plugs and inspection.

Annual service if doing under 20k a year was effectively the same as a 20k but at four years you carried out a 40k service.

wow.. Air Con service.... bet that was just a "top up" too rather than a full regass.

If it was free, yeah do it... wonder how much they wanted ?

They wanted £75 from me....they didn't get it obviously

Why go to main dealers to get ripped off? Go to an independent VAT registered garage that will use OEM parts under manufacturers servicing guidelines and this will keep your warranty in tact and also save you a lot of £'s.

I got AC service and brake fluid change for £65 on a promotion, well worth it in my book.

Not at 11 months old with 9500 miles on the clock ;)

For me, goodwill is the reason. But that's for another thread I guess.

Because sometimes when it comes to knowing the product a dealer is the best option. Playing devils advocate to be honest as very few people actually stick up for them. Worked bloody hard in dealers for 20 years and being tarred with the 'stealers' brush really got to me some days.

Not all dealers actually know the product though. They have all the information and parts in their hands, and yet there are dealerships that can't do basic things such as to ID a problem.

It's probably on the hymn sheet they have to follow.

Don't blame the poor service desk person, they're just following orders/targets to keep their jobs.

VW tried that recently on the works car, but as I do the miles I'm out of sync with their crib sheet when they give me a courtesy call that my vehicle may be due routine work.

You should have asked what it involved.  The latest profit centre for the dealers is to spray a $10 bottle of anti-bacterial spray in the AC system & change the $20 pollen filter, call it a "service" and charge $100

My Rapid 1.2 TSI will be due for a 40k service soon. The Dealers quoted £299 fixed price but like Tom_vRS  I don't know what is done at 40K?

Anyone know when the cam belt or is it a chain(?) is changed?

I found this strange too when asked, apart from changing the oil/filters and or pollen filter they couldn't really convince me that it's worth well over £200 to service my Toledo.

It's ready for its 2nd service now, last year it cost £179 for what is basically an oil change, Skoda dealer did this as Seat are far too expensive. So now faced with as said a larger bill I asked what it entails and it seems to me it's another load of visual checks and of course changing the oil and filters. They wasn't even sure (the person I spoke to) whether they even remove the wheels to do a brake check, they certainly didn't on the 1st service, but I knew that. OK they can hook it up to do updates, if any required, BTW Skoda said they couldn't last year when asked, I would need to take it to Seat for that.

Anyways my car which is on 8k miles, 2 years old is going into my friendly local garage which I use if required for my other car. They quoted me £140 for an annual service which does include taking the wheels off and doing a brake strip/check, they will be using manufacturers recommended oils and filters.

^^^ Well that £140 service cost me £99.26

They didn't do anything less than they had quoted for, it just got overpriced for parts and especially oil, invoice adjusted.

First time I had used them for an actual car service, usually just MOT on my other car and for a brake problem on another car. Pleased with the service and price from them it's a family run business.

Just had a 40K service by my local garage(not dealer) on my 2 year old Rapid and all is great for £146 inc, vat. All filters changed,

brakes inspected/adjusted.. really has made a big difference to performance and fuel economy and half the price my dealer wanted !

The Timing chain according to Skoda has a life guarantee, never needs changing!!

So, my 1.2TSI 110 is now 10 months old, but is coming close to 14,000 miles (It's date of registration is sep 15). The service indicator is not showing on the dash/maxidot so I assume I haven't bust the mileage back-stop.

Am I overdue the first service or would it be due at 18,000 miles/1 year (whichever is soonest)? All the 10,000miles/1 year talk in this thread has me confused.

My daughter's Spaceback is meant to have its service done at 12000 miles/ 1 year, whichever comes soonest. Same type of engine and BHP as yours too, hers was registered in Nov 15.

depends if your car is on fixed or variable service, there is a way to access the disply to show time to next service

Do the dealers still stamp the book? I've got a service schedule but there doesn't appear to a interval which can be stamped in?

I popped into my local Citroen dealer a fe weeks back for an aircon service on my Rapid £40, beats K****Fit by about a fiver. Every 2 years. Aircon isn't topped-up, te machine drains the system and refills with the correct amount of gas. I guess the technician "tells" the machine how much to use using the info from the sticker under the bonnet.
