Underseat V Boot Sub

Recommended Posts

I'm considering installing a sub but my main conundrum is whether the sound quality of an underseat sub would be better than a unit in the boot.

Will a sub in the boot have a more muffled sound than an underseat one? I'm more interested in sound quality than blowing my ear drums....

I was considering these 2 alternatives:

I'm using an old Sony headunit with RCA outs and the ability to control sub level.

Any thoughts/experiences?

Yes, more than one in different locations, not impressed with the sound quality.

Of course Ant's opinion is completely subjective, you are best to try and go and listen to one and see what you think.

I have come to the same dilemma, I want to keep the boot space, but want some reasonable lower bass. Seen the Kenwood underseat subs at £100 which I think is worth a gamble, would like to hear one first though. Also thinking that an underseat sub wouldn't require any sound deadening as it is surrounded by it already.

I have an Alpine 12" E Type Sub in a box with an Alpine 1000watt (single channel unfortunately) amp separate, but don't want to install it due to the hassle of removing it every time I want to put gear, snowboards, tools, a dog, guns etc in the boot. Hence me leaning towards an underseat sub...

Need to find a decent single din with a couple of outputs thought first!
