Shocked to find a main dealer cheaper than an independant

I have actually been shocked today that a local main dealer has quoted me less than my VAG independent.

 

I need the cam belt and Water pump changed along with a full filter and oil change.

 

Ok its only by £8 but still I was expecting it to be way more expensive.

 

Even the dealer was surprised.

It would be nice to know the price and the main dealer to see just how good it is , the main dealers have a fixed price for cambelt and water pump its £459 or £359 just the cambelt

a major service is £249 and they wont change all filters if they deem them ok its in the small print, 

the fixed price would be around £708

plus you get a two year warranty on dealer fitted parts. 

dont count on any skoda warranty just ask all the vrs tsi owners with less than five year old cars with with timing chain tensioner issues and massive bills for engine replacements.

Sorry I don't see your point, what has a 2 year warranty on fitted parts got to do with parts failing on out of warranty cars ? unfortunate as that is.

just beware with the major service that the diesel filter and pollen filter will be changed as its only a recomendation to change these filters its basicaly a rip off at the main dealer

£249 for two extra filters over the oil service thats £139, if you want to keep the fsh just get the basic oil service and change the other two filters yourself it only takes 15mins to do pollen and diesel filters they are really easy to change

NO YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT most of the 2.0 tsi tensioner problems are on cars still covered by original skoda warrenty or the extended warrenty that they try to get everyone to pay extra money for, then when you need the cover of both warrenties they show little interest in helping people until just read the thread for the tensioner failiers there is pages of upset people with two or three year old cars at the time dating back to 2010 cars

Yes I said I don't see your point (notice lack of capital letters), there are no cars mentioned on that thread that were in their 3 year manufactures warranty that were not repaired foc. I know people have had problems with their extended warranties but these are no the same as the manufactures warranty and not the same as the 2 years you get on dealer fitted skoda parts so you are comparing apples and oranges.
