Yeti No3 on order

Recommended Posts

Got the go ahead from the powers that be, so off to the dealer this morning.

I've gone for a 150 SE L DSG outdoor in Quartz grey with black alcantara interior.

The only option being a heated windscreen.

I now have the long wait till mid July until I see it.

If you have ordered the heated windscreen would also spec the heated washers to go with it as not a lot more. I have the alcantara seats in my second Yeti, thought I was getting full leather again but came with this fabric and I really like it. Has a bit of grip to it where you slide a bit on leather.

The seats in the wife's Octy have a suede type material in place of the alcantara and that is very comfortable.

The alcantara is nice and grippy so should be even better.

Never have been a fan of leather in cars. Too hot in summer and cold in the winter.

Tempted but more tempted with the Seat Ateca, we're currently looking at various options. Current Yeti is in for a service and first MOT next week so we'll make a decision in the next few months.

I was equally tempted by Ateca until I realised there was not a petrol DSG version and, according to Seat Customer Service, there are no plans to introduce the DSG gearbox on any petrol model. There is a diesel version so might suit you as a replacement for your L&K 140 DSG.

Understand your comments and I agree that not having a small petrol DSG is short sighted. Both Seat and Skoda seem to have a restricted view of 'customers' needs. I can see no reason why the both do not have the engine and gearbox range that many of the European countries enjoy.

I'm looking at the 190 TDi with DSG so not the same issue as you. I'd go for another Skoda with no hesitation if the Yeti 2 was going to be available before 2018. The Kodiak is just to long for our needs.

Looked at the Kodiak but it is too big and the petrol engine doesn't seem up to the job with the size of the vehicle. I would guess that fuel consumption would be very, very much higher than the stated 50 MPG in real life driving. One option I am looking at is getting a run out model of the existing Yeti if I can buy at a highly discounted price. However, much can change in the next 12 months as more smaller Yeti size competitors hit the market.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Skoda and SEAT UK etc. when they are discussing what spec. should be made available.

They are obviously "experts" and "well informed"! :notme:

That would make sense.

Trouble is some folks are looking elsewhere now i.e. outside of VAG. So they are shooting themselves in the foot.

It's particularly annoying when other markets get the spec. that you want.

I have a horrible feeling it's all about market positioning and trying to make sure they don't steal too many sales from one another, hence the odd gaps in product lines.

Interesting comment when I visited a local Seat dealer.  The sales rep commented at one point that they used to have 6 cars in the range and now this was 'essentially' only 4 and on its way to being 3.  The new Ateca looks to be key for the company in the short to medium term with their version of the Kodiak to come after the Skoda introduction it would appear.  Skoda's range is 6 with the new Kodiak on it's way ahead of the Yeti 2 which should really be replaced now I feel. I know it's a bit of a conspiracy theory but who knows what deals have been done and at what level?

Is it still worth considering importing a new car from Europe (assuming there is no PX involved) to get the spec you want? In '99 I imported a new Volvo from Holland at a saving of thousands and exactly the spec I wanted, not having to accept this pack or that pack, just chose from a menu list.

The whole process was very simple. I know the whole car buying climate has changed since those days and I suspect the financial incentives are no longer present but if you really wanted a particular car and spec. it might be worth considering.

Update:

I was informed by my dealer that my car was confirmed as build week 31, which is this last week.

I did ask them yesterday to check whether it actually had been screwed together but the system they use, ISL or something like it, was down across the dealer network.

I'm waiting for a call tomorrow with an update.

On a sour note, I have a personal plate on the existing car.

They originally wouldn't have anything to do with the transfer to the new one.

They backed down on that and have now done the retention/age related plate thing, but then asked me to buy the age related plates ang fit them!

Got that sorted and they've now made me up a set and they've been fitted.

The salesman I'm dealing with then had the cheek to ask me to give them my personal plates to fit to the new car!

I think I might have upset the boss with "that's fine, I'd rather not be advertising your dealership anyway"

A new set of plates will be fitted :)

That's really sad. Once they have your retention certificate it's no more work for them and the cost of the plates is already part of the deal. Mine 'should' be being built this week, week 32. Fingers crossed.

The salesman's argument was that they had already paid for a set of plates for my existing car.

When I collect the new one, that will be the last time they see me.

It may be further, but trips to Hughes in Aylesbury will be on the cards in future.

Well, apparently my car is now at the docks in Emden waiting for a ship :)

Maybe if mine gets built this week it'll catch up with yours? I'll need to search back through the forum to see how to track the ship.

Have a look at Marine Traffic.

There is a Vehicle carrier presently docked in Emden

The Equuleus Leader.

It got there on 7th August so you may be lucky

Great information, it always amazes me when you zoom in and see just how many cars are awaiting transport.  That's a big planning job.

Somehow, mine was built last week (wk 31) and arrived in Grimsby yesterday!

Nice :)

I've been told that cars bound for the south, land at Sheerness.

Am I sad checking MarineTraffic every day?

Not sad at all!!

I was almost disappointed when the dealer emailed to say it was already in the UK - I was looking forward to tracking its progress across the water! Second thoughts, maybe we're both a bit sad.....

Bugger, it isn't on the Equuleus.

That's on its way to Canada.

GMT Astro has replaced it in Emden so maybe ......
