Brake Upgrade

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

I put mtec brakes on mine and swapped the rubber brake lines for stainless ones and that's really helped!!

I've just had mtec black dimpled and grooved brakes and pagid pads fitted front and rear. I read up on brake lines and the general consensus was that they weren't much different and they're generally fitted to racing cars for their durability and ease of replacement, rather than the performance difference. I've never had steel/braided lines fitted myself, so can't pass personal comment. So far they seem good and have much more bite than the bosch discs/pads that were fitted. The rears weren't too bad (replaced them anyway for my own peace of mind) but the fronts were badly corroded on the rear/inside face and so I only had 50-60% of the braking surface working effectively.

The next step up is a replacement caliper/disc combo. The porsche option seems popular, but you could also explorer the VAG Brembo options from the Leon and S3 :)

If you've already got 312mm discs just get some good pads (I love Tarox) and upgrade the fluid to minimise fade.

If you haven't got 312mm brakes I've got some calliper and carriers from a 2014 Leon FR 185 that I had on my Yeti project, painted black with white Skoda logo, PM if you're interested :)
