140 bhp or the 170bhp

Hi just after some advice had a mark 1 1.9tdi superb for 4 years and ended up with 280k miles on it. Unfortunately some muppet hit it and wrote it off. I'm currently driving a 1.6 superb estate greenline on hire from the Taxi company I work for. Imy now in a dilemma to which model superb to go for as we all love that bit extra poke !! I'm thinking of the 170 bhp over the 140 unit. What are peoples advice in reliability over this ?

All I can say is that my 190CR has been brilliant. Coming up for 90k miles of trouble-free motoring

There isn't a CR190, did you mean CR170?

I have a CR140 and it has more than enough poke for me and I cover 30,000 miles a year.

That engine is only available in cars with longitudinal engine mounting. It's a 90 degree V6 so I reckon it's probably too wide to fit transversely. We could petition for the Superb 4 to be based on the Audi A6 platform, but it'd probably make it a lot more expensive.

The redesigned Audi A4 will actually arrive in the U.S. as a 2017 model and it will come with something it’s been missing for years.

 

Now scheduled to go on sale next March, the new A4 will be offered with a diesel variant for the first time in the U.S., sporting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine with 190 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.

The 2017 Audi A4 diesel will have a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission with front-wheel models coming later on in the model year. Those not wanting a diesel powerplant can opt for the standard 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine with 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will initially launch with quattro all-wheel drive only.

I already get just over 200 bhp from my 2 litre TDI. Adding a litre to the engine size to get less than 40 bhp more seems like a very bad deal...

Maybe one day Skoda will get the 2.0TDI BiTurbo with 240ps as fitted to the Passat.

It's the 550 Nm of torque that makes the 3.0 V6 attractive. Pity they're so damned expensive though.

For the torque increase to be in proportion with the engine size, the 3 litre would need to be putting out over 600 Nm too. A remapped 3 litre TDI could probably make this. The only good reason to pay Audi money is to get bigger engines and quattro to make use of them .
