Rear view camera

Recommended Posts

The OEM VW Taureg fits the Superb according to those who have done it. You will need to cut the slot for the boot release handle a little bigger to fit it though.

Yep, you can have the camera system with the dynamic guide lines linked to the steering.

Fit the camera where the existing handle lives (will need modification and rust proofing!)

Fit the interface module behind the boot trim on the driver's side, allowing for ventilation.

Run the wiring loom at low level behind the side seat bolster and under the plastic door sill trims.

Plug the signal cable into the rear of the columbus, connect to CAN-Hi and CAN-Lo for dynamic steering guide lines on the screen as well as the reverse signal. This can be done at the back of the Columbus unit. It's the right CAN-BUS signal as it's the one that provides the Columbus with data from the (OPC) parking sensors, I'm pretty sure it's on the Drive CAN rather than convenience or infotainment CAN.

Connect +12v and ground to power the interface box in the boot.

You will also need to do some VCDS work, namely telling the CAN-BUS gateway there is a camera fitted, plus some other coding for the Columbus and the interface box.

Ideally, these systems should be calibrated with the official VW calibration kit. I never did this and I never had any problems with mine. It used to throw a non-calibration error when I scanned for DTCs but it never interfered with the camera's function.

This is basically the kit I used, but I sourced most of the parts I needed individually via ebay and such like. http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-tiguan-5n0-rear-highline-camera-kit-5n0907441,id1545.html

It won't work if you have a factory TV tuner as that uses the video in socket in the back of the Columbus you'd need for the camera.

This is the kit I got from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-VW-Tiguan-RVC-Rear-HighLine-Camera-kit-5N0907441-A-for-RNS-510-315-RCD-510-/270879174869?hash=item3f11a830d5:g:nc8AAOSwcnpTmWds

This is everything you need for the camera to work, just a bit of alteration to the slot in the boot for the handle and some VCDS coding.

I fitted mine to a 2013 Superb FL and it worked without any serious issues. Bear in mind hardware can and does change throughout the lifespan of a model, so what worked for me might not work for everyone else!

I also got some replacement clips for the rear boot plastic panel: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-TRIM-PANEL-LINING-UPHOLSTERY-METAL-SPRING-CLIPS-INTERIOR-/400651044291?hash=item5d48a9c5c3:g:7Z8AAOxy3zNSmdAj

Very nice description.

You can put a camera in if you have a factory fitted TV. You will need to replace the connection from Columbus to TV with a lead that has the TV + RVC plugs, so one cable out and one in.

I have looked into fitting a reverse cam with my tv and have been told there is no such cable available to buy   ....
From many a source

I was thinking along the lines of a switch idea on cables

It is possible. This was a factory option from Volkswagen on Passats among other models, so can be retrofitted. There are plenty of write ups on the net.

I have the L&K and have the parts sitting on the shelf. I just did not have the time and often could not be bothered to take the car apart in cold and damp weather.

The parts you need are:

- Trunk handle 5N0 827 566J or similar - slightly bigger as described above, so cutting is necessary.

- Control Unit for Reversing Camera System 3AE 907 441 or similar. This is slightly smaller than the TV tuner and will fit into the same recess.

- Fakra Z (Coax) cable from RVC to controller.

- cable harness from Columbus / RNS510 to back of car. These looms are available and can be ordered separately:

TV Tuner: 7N1 971 327 A
RFK HIGH: 7N1 971 327

TV Tuner + RFK High: 7N1971327b  <=  This is the one you need to order if you have a factory fitted TV. It has one 26-pin plug for the Columbus and TWO 54-pin connectors for TV tuner and RVC. It costs about £55.
