Vrs owners - suspension - what are you running?

Recommended Posts

So I put a pair of pattern springs on the front, and they're a bit, err random. They'd probably be ok on a 1.2, but they don't like having VAGS finest boat engine sat on them.

I thing I need to bite the bullet and buy something decent. What have you got on yours and how do you find it?

I don't want a big drop, and nothing harsh because the roads round here are shocking.

How many miles have your shock absorbers done?

Just fitted Bilsteins and Eibachs on my Mrs SE,handles and drives really nice now :)

The car has only done just over 70k miles but the front shock absorbers were totally knackered.

Another vote for Eibach - but they will drop the car 25mm if you buy the correct ones for the vRS. I'm running Koni FSD shock absorbers. This was the classic combination, right from the start of the vRS line.

Got Koni STR kit with H&R springs.  it's a lowering kit but not coilover. Dropped by 40mm. Handling improved so much. pretty crashy on bigger potholes or speedbumps though.

KW V1 coilovers. A bit expensive for some but worth every penny IMHO. Firm but very comfortable. Much better than the stock suspension on my missus' Fiesta Zetec S. (We both agree on this)

As above, well HR not exactly sure on the drop though (they are black I think?)

Although seriously though would be interested to know if there is variances in the original "OEM" suspension height on standard vRS and any part numbers changed in that respect? I've seen mentioned about it being lowered as standard - ridiculous I think as mine looked comical as standard and had more of a gap from arch to wheel from new that from the sides of the wheel to the arch. I wonder if it was even maybe fitted with incorrect standard springs from new.

My BLT seemed seriously high but for the sake of insurance hassle with several cars and wanting to combine NCB, as some providers don't touch this kind of subject would be tempted to go back to OEM.

Are all OEM cars on slilts though? Some seem to look quite different, not low but equally not a clown car like mine was.

Also whilst many are dead keen on pushing every ounce from the engine with mods as I have a TFSI octy don't currently feel the need to go that way, so maybe keeping standard as possible for insurance wouldn't be bad ? Photos with this post would be a good idea.

Cheers chaps, going with the Eibach's I think, can't be doing with crashy, the roads are rubbish round here. I've got some nearly new shockers sat on the shelf so I'll chance those.

They're going on the Ibiza (cheaper, worse made, version of a VRS). The ride height on those isn't too bad as standard, I don't want it low because it gets used a bit "agriculturally" at times. I think I got given petrol springs instead of diesel springs when I bought these because it's about 3" down at the minute. It looks awesome but the ride's crap.
