Horrible screech noise. Auxiliary belt off

Mine sounded exactly like this when the alternator pulley had seized. It should free wheel in one direction but drive the other. See here:

He has run it without the aux belt and it still makes the noise, so it can't be the alternator

I'd also look for some metal shields under the car. Get it on an elevator and start looking. Are your engine mounts in good condition? The exhaust may be vibrating and touching something. Look for scratches.

Ok so, I had it in a garage today to have it looked at as I just haven't got time to tinker myself. Apparently the noise is coming from the turbo. I asked if they had took the oil feed pipe off and checked the flow or blockage but they didn't seem interested. I just can't get my head round how it could be my turbo as the car hadn't lost any power what so ever no excess smoke only the standard extra you get with running at 230bhp+ I'm going to have a look myself. Anyone any ideas what to check?

Also the noise doesn't happen on idle but any sort of revs it's there. Anything from 1100 upwards.

Would you notice the small loss of power? The screeching noise itself suggests it's a very small leak, like air escaping from a balloon, I'm not sure it's a leak, I'm simply suggesting a cause which is plausible, it's up to you to find out.

Ok! Update on this post... Fault fixed now. Took into a local garage as I just couldn't find time to try and diagnose this myself. They advised me it was definitely coming from the turbo couldn't tell me what they had done what they had checked and charged nothing for it... I wasn't convinced by their diagnosis as no power loss and no smoke and just never heard a turbo screach like that before. Got the car on my ramps at home and investigated the fault myself. It did sound like it was coming from the turbo so proceeded to remove the turbo to send away for checking. When I removed turbo/exhaust manifold found that there was a small part of the exhaust manifold gasket had broke away and had been blowing. Checked the turbo over myself and felt happy that there was no signs of any sort of failure. Picked up new exhaust and inlet manifold gaskets and rebuilt it.

Ran her up and took for test drive and boom noise gone and pulling better than ever! For a measly £12 for 2 gaskets and 3hours of my time!
