Best Bluetooth Module

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After reading numerous post regarding bluetooth modules and part numbers, could anyone give me advice on the best part number to buy? I have a 2011 Octavia vRS with the Bolero head unit and maxi dot. I am not too fussed about streaming music from my phone, I more need the ability to make/answer calls from the MFSW and the head unit.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I too would like to know what the options are. I have seen bluetooth modules available online which contain the OEM bluetooth kit (non-enhanced). Is it worth getting an enhanced kit? Also mine does not have a MFSW or Maxidot, just the Bolero unit.

It would be nice what OEM options there are for myself and the OP.

Found this walkthrough for the 9W7 module. I think it should work in both mine and OP's cases. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/bluetooth-faq-for-vw-golf-jetta-jsw-9w2-9w3-9w7-modules/

I think for the OP, to use the Push to talk function, may need programming, but using all other features will work once connecting all the pieces together.

I found this kit too which I believe would be the latest revision. Would need to add a couple more wires leading to the back of the head unit for full audio (Left as well as Right). http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-bluetooth-kit-7p6035730p-retrofit-newest-version,id1729.html

For a FL Octavia with maxidot, a 3C8 035 730 A/B/C/D/E modules are the best plan as they support HFP and rSAP. The D/E rev will also support a WiFi hotspot when using an rSAP enabled phone. Be aware that depending on the maxidot SW version, some premium BT icons aren't shown and instead are an empty box. This doesn't effect functionality but is something to be aware of.

For the non-maxidot case, I believe the general advice is either 5K0 035 730 D onwards or 7P6 035 730 J onwards. Biggest problem is that some blaupunkt Bolero's show a corrupted phonebook... I've seen claims that there is an firmware update to fix the Bolero but most seem to replace it. There might also be an alternative module that works better but I'm not sure.

I was looking at the install for this along with the price and it would come to roughly £200-£250. I may go with an aftermarket headunit that has Navigation, bluetooth, possibly phone mirror. I have seen some good ones in the range of £350-£500 which offer a lot of features. I know of the aftermarket direct replacements from kenwood and zenec which would still display the Climate Control and Rear Parking sensor optical display. Might bite the bullet and get the aftermarket one.

Thanks for that, and so the hunt begins for a reasonably priced one....

They have shot up in price recently. I managed to get both a 3C8 D and E for around £60-80 each 12 months ago...

Cheapest 7P6 kit for UdayP I've seen is this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322105540431

Cheaperd 3C8 D is probably this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291732439482

It's nice to get one with a foam case but it's easy enough to hide the unit in the dash :)

Thanks Langers!

I might actually still got for this bluetooth module. Knowing it can be put behind the dash is far better than having to route it under the passenger seat. I just hope the mic is easy enough to place too!

Pretty sure that one will be ok too but is that sufficiently good value to justify the transportation wait? If so, these things have certainly gone up in value of late.
