Digestive enzymes

Recommended Posts

Been reading up about problems related to our digestive system, and enzymes

Seems that after the age of 40, the body starts reducing the quantity of enzymes required to break down your food sufficiently, leading to many potential problems,

.....and I quote.................When this happens, a toxic soup of decaying matter begins to leak back into your bloodstream from your colon, and plays havoc with your health causing you all kinds of mystifying symptoms that you and your doctor just can’t unravel.

So, to help overcome this, I've come across this seemingly highly rated solution in tablet form...Digest Gold Premium Enzyme Formula.

Anybody using it, or can recommend something equally as effective?

My wife suffers from IBS and wheat intolerance. She takes a digestive enzyme and it DOES help keep her IBS under control.

she uses udos choice super8.

And its not a placebo affect in her case. Most people do not need to take them, but if you suffer from digestive problems they can be of benefit.

Edit typo

That's all I wanted to hear, as I too suffer from digestion problems and had simply been doing a bit of online searching on the subject.

Really didn't need the sarcastic posts ^^^  to further my knowledge, and was actually a bit taken aback by them tbh

Thanks for your help mac. Appreciated

After years of intestinal issues I tried some probiotics and got a LOT better, I use OptiBac, not expensive to buy online, and come in tubs of varying sizes, from 30 up to 180, so you can try a small tub and not feel you have wasted your money if they dont work for you.

There is a huge market for these supplements, but if you DONT have any issues, they are a waste of time; in my case, several years of anal probing by the NHS got me nowhere (except a tear in my lower bowl that wont heal).

If you send me your bank account details to my address in Nigeria, I'll transfer the winnings of a long lost aged relative who won the lottery, but for reasons I won't go into can not get a bank account to pay the whole sum into.

Once you have the winnings, we will ask you transfer them to us and in return you can keep 20%.

I presume the p*** takers in our midst on this thread, don't suffer with digestion problems, and I hope they don't in the future either.

Find it very sad that some feel the need to poke fun at those ...namely me in this case....that do.

I was merely asking if anyone had used the product I mentioned, or any other  that might help, such as mac and GG did.

I'm surprised & saddened at the comments made by a couple of members here.

Digestion problems come in many guises, and I'm not sure those who have made these comments understand how serious and debilitating these chronic conditions can be.

Having had a sudden onset of digestive problems myself, I went from a normal person to almost house bound overnight. It took me years of medical screening to get any form of diagnosis and finally some medication that worked.

I'm not cured, but I can now get on with my life. I have a number of prescribed medications AND probiotics. These were recommended by my consultant. I haven't used them in tablet form, but it's something I might consider.

Adenuf, I hope you get the help & info you need. Good luck.

To the others who felt the need to poke fun, shame on you.

Thanks Pooch.Appreciated. I thought it must have just me being weird or something.

I can't eat after about 6: in the evenings now, as everything just seems to lay in my stomach dormant for hours on end.

Going out for that traditional mid evening meal is virtually something of the past for me now, as I know it'll be waking me up a couple of hours after going to sleep with the most horrendous indigestion.

Gaviscon is my friend then, but I don't like taking it repeatedly, or any other prescribed chemical medications for anything if possible, as they can create problems elsewhere,, hence the reason for looking for more natural solutions,

Sleep interruption and  deprivation for starters, and that can then lead to more problems.

I won't even mention the Spondylitis that wakes me up at 4-5 am 4 out of 7 nights on average per week with the most horrendous toothache type pain in my neck.

Don't want to be accused of being a hypochondriac, as I VERY much appreciate that everyone has aches pains and ailments, some worse than others, and if they wish to discuss them anytime, they will get the full sympathy and understanding from me

Should I mention my MS that I've been battling with reasonably successfully for the past 22 years too  perhaps....nah, I'm lucky in that dept, 'cus it's made me stronger mentally and I can do most things albeit a bit slower, as the average 'Joe'.

I n defence of those that feel the need to take the mick, I suppose when I was a great deal younger I too got, selfishly probably,  sick of listening to the older generations who seemingly were always and never endingly whinging and whining about their tiresome ailments.

Trouble is, you don't really consider it as a possibility when you're young and generally reasonably fit and healthy.

Comes as a nasty surprise when age related crap gradually kicks in, as it does for the majority

I'm assuming that your doctor has done the usual tests and exclusion diary?

Something ridiculous like 80% odd of intolerance & digestive issues can be directly linked back to foods, and intolerances can change/become apparent too as you get older.

Usual suspects are alcohol, dairy, caffeine (tea & coffee), wheat/gluten for starters next anything acidic (fruit juices etc) & fizzy drinks.

Try only drinking water for a week & min of 2 litres/day

Fodmaps diet is worth looking at also - swmbo was told to try it in conjunction with the wheat free diet with the Super8 supplement BY HER ABDOMINAL SURGEON during a consultation recently as her IBS has flared up quite badly since Spudrick's C-Section arrival last year.

Apart from having to avoid ANY level of yeast content - as it triggers my auto-immune problem; it turns out that MOST of my stomach issues were being caused by a new allergic reaction to Rooibos tea; my favourite tea now joins Olive Oil margerine on my list of things that give me the squitters (as the previous descriptive word would get censored)   :-(

So try and track back when you have an surge of symptoms, you may be able to eventually pin down the cause. The yeast issue was really difficult, because they put it in SO many food products, including soups and gravies.

Easy way is to eat more "good bacteria" & no not those high cost drinks in very small bottles, I make my own yogurt using plain full fat milk & Yeo Valley Greek style full fat yogurt. This yogurt contains the correct "Bulgarian" type of bacteria.

I no longer have "bloating" etc. & considering I am slim & always eat healthily , hardly drink, don't smoke etc I have noticed my bodies metabolism slowing down in the past 8yrs.

It's not really anything in particular tbh. It's the time I eat that seems to affect me the most.

I mean, I made a very nice chicken curry with rice and broccoli tonight at 6pm, and despite going out for a beautiful fairly strenuous walk this evening, I can still feel it lying in my stomach.

Food tends to stick on its way 'down' sometimes, which is possibly an MS related problem, as the muscles don't always act as they should. Very random.

My digestion problems hve become much more intolerant this last couple of years though, so I've started taking those probiotic yoghurts, and as in the op, been looking at these enzyme tabs too.

They can't do any harm, but before forking out for a months supply, I was just wondering if that highly rated one or something similar had been used with success by anyone in here?

Chin up lads. We are not alone ey!  ;)
