Been doing short journeys where the engine hasnt warmed up fully? checked your oil levels?  could be from just over fueling or even a bit of oil being burnt.

Yep! Exactly what I was getting. Symptoms of an oil burner surely? I was having to wipe down the rear bumper & rear screen, every day or so. Not surprising really, I was using the best part of 2 litres per 1000km.

All is fine now, only 0.018 litres per 1000km,  according to the official test.

Many have sooty exhausts and do not have OIl Burners,

CAVE engine cars pre CTHE had different engine management, but then you get CTHE's with different maps as well,

and soot build up in the exhaust system.

There are cars 6 years old that have had soot out the exhaust for 6 years and do not use oil.

Mine does the same, but does use oil.

Got flashing management light and misfiring on idle badly yesterday-

But fine when revved and driven hard.

Checked the plugs to show this.........

Not good.

So what is the car, age & miles.?

New plugs required,

latest software from Skoda on the ECU,

 5w 40 Full Synthetic Oil (VW 502 00)

99 octane fuel

& all might be well, it depends how much of an oil user it is.

PS

Do not rev hard a Twincharger with one bad plug.

The issue is on Supercharger & Turbo between 2,400-3,500 rpm under full boost and a cylinder misfiring,

it can be very costly when 2 cylinders shut down or the Turbo,

and hope hope they shut down before damage occurs.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, putting new plugs in.

It's April 2011 with only 32k on the clock, not sure if it's had ecu update but it has had the dsg oil change, not that that would affect the engine though.

It does use oil, 1.5 litre in 3k miles....

Already running 502 spec oil and 99 Ron.

Shall just see what happens over the next few days!

Ask Skoda UK if your car ever got the Breather Pipe / Valve update, and then it should have had an engine ECU update.

That might have helped and still might.

(No matter if out of warranty they knew many needed it when in Warranty.)

Different from the Software Update when the DSG Service campaign was done.

If the plugs have never been changed they could be well overdue even though Skoda / VW say the OEM Long Life plugs are good for 40,000 miles.

I have the 4th MOT coming up at the end of June on one of the first vRS Fabias.

It was going to be a fail last year on emissions with the Switchable APR MAP at Servicing mode and i had to switch it to stage 1 to pass.

This year it will be getting tested as the first test of the day after having been out for a hot drive at Stage 1.

There are no Recalls,

but as for Breather Mod & ECU updates that depends what Engine and age of car.

So when was it built, and has anything been done to it.

Has it had a software update any time?

If it uses oil and is as it left the factory then there might well be updates required,

like Oil Spray Jets and a software update.

So what age and mileage of car and does it use excessive oil?

Ah, that would answer that then.

It's 2011 CAVE, 32k on the clock and totally standard.

However, it's stood for a week while I've been away and fired up instantly and no misfire on idle at all.

Just going to keep an eye on oil use and get it into Skoda for thier consumption test and see what that reveals.

Main dealer did mention the breather mods, oil jet etc but no warranty cover. The car is 5 years old so if I have to pay for the mods ill just get it done.

It just seems odd that it has only been misfiring on idle and not on boost though!

Did new plugs get fitted when you posted those in post #8?

Do you have a nice clean air filter in?

& You could maybe do with a new Fuel Filter.

If you were putting your car into a Skoda Dealership for servicing then there would be no extra expense with them puting the latest

Software update on the ECU.

This might be all you need to resolve any misfire on start up if you actually have misfires on start up which is unlikely unless you have one very sooted up plug or tip on the way out.

The Service Desk staff can not know what your car is running unless they had it plugged in.

?

When they changed the spark plugs was the car on the Diagnostics and checked for any Software Updates, ?

because there are for a 2011 CAVE, unless already done in the past 18 months or so.

??

How often are you putting in oil, and which oil?

Maybe use 5w 40 Full Synthetic (VW502 00) and do not overfill it.

Get in 3.6 litres, see where that is with a cold dip,

and see how quickly before you need more oil to keep that level.

An official Oil Consumption test will not tell you more than you checking your self.

The motor was service at 29k by main dealer-

Plugs, filters etc-

Post #8 was supposedly those plugs- that is if they'd put new ones in as listed in service info.

Filter is brand new though, checked that out!

I've got new plugs on the way to fit this week.

As for the fuel filter I've got a spare one- got it to replace when I got the car- I like to replace all filters when I get a new motor, just to be sure they're all clean and good. But found out that the fuel filter is a 'lifetime' filter from VW!?! Must admit I don't really believe that!

I'll get back into them about the software update!

As for oil, I'm using Mobil 1 0w-40 to VW 502 spec. Topping it up once a month or so.

I'll set the level and check it at 1000 mile intervals over the next couple of weeks.

Cheers for your info again.
