Best suspension for B-roads?

I know this has probably been covered by other threads, but when I watched that Top Gear hot hatch items last night where they say forgiving on B-roads.

I do wonder what would be the most suitable suspension for B roads for our VRS? Something as good as a stock Focus or Megane RS and still soft enough to go really quick on B-roads.

I guess most coil overs are to stiff? Like the Golf GTI Clubsport S isn't as hard as it would be when the engineers would have made a setup for a smooth circuit like Silverstone.

Oh and I've read that most kits aren't properly designed for the Octy, just MK4 kits sold as such.

And yes we have terrible roads, potholes and speed bumps too in Holland

H&R make specific springs and Bilstein specific dampers for the rear of our cars, and not just generic mk4 Golf platform items. I've only tried standard suspension on my car but plan to fit H&Rs and Bilsteins once I've found some spare cash to buy the dampers. At the moment, there just isn't much body control from the old suspensions and the car (and occupants!) gets thrown about on bump B roads when you start to press on a bit.

Another vote for the H&R springs, and Bilstien B8's, good combo for everyday use and B road blast.

Running the FK koningsomething, they are good to start with. I then lowered them, which makes the ride a little too hard and bouncy for my liking.

Having said that, the roll is virtually eliminated and on track they really shine.

Each to their own, also heard good review of slightly stiffer springs and standard dampers???

Just bought myself some Koni STR.T with H&R Springs and I can honestly say it's one of the best investment's I've made to date. Brilliant handling and puts the power down really well. In my opinion the ride is just right, it doesn't break your back when going over a speed bump and it also doesn't wallow about in corners.

Ground clearance. Sump guard.

 

I dropped my octy mk 1 4x4 on coilvers, KW 2, they had koni inserts. Set for track it was awful on b roads and ferry ramps . Raised up it was much better.

 

Replaced it with a mk 1 octy vRS. I left the suspension stock and replaced the ARB's. This gave in my mind a much better feeling car overall. Still compliant but a much-improved driving experience, turn in etc. It might be worth doing this first unless you're in dire need of a suspension swap due to fatigue.

Yes agreed, lows is for shows. Suspension needs travel in order to do what it is designed to do

I didn't get notifications, so just read it, thanks for all the replies! Will find out about those Bilsteins en H&R. Depending on funds I will ask for a slightly higher rear (or lower front)...

I have finally stumped up for a set of B8s! Just need to find time to stick them plus the H&Rs on the car and get rid of the wallowy handling. Pretty excited, as the old girl could do with having some nice shiny new parts.

The rear anti roll bar is a good mod.
