New to Fabia VRS tsi

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the Skoda scene and have purchased a VRS tsi as my first 'hot hatch'. Im in love with the car so far and it does everything I want it to do... BUT... Having owned it for about a month now, I am getting used to the power, even after installing an ITG induction kit. Any tips on good mods to start out? Have ordered a cobra sport downpipe and sports cat for improved sound but just want a bit more 'thrown back in your seat' action but wary of a remap for a relatively little 1.4 engine...

Actually checked the oil today, know about the oil problems so making it a thing to check regularly. Had a little exhaust clean with some metal polish to get them back to chrome rather than matte black

Welcome to the forum.

Enjoy your car.  What age is it?

An APR Stage 1 map will not do it any harm if you have a good sound engine with no issues.

Best avoid a REVO Stage 1.

Thanks mate! So far it seems a good engine but probably would want to give it another month or so before mapping it... It's a 61 reg with 40,000 miles on the clock. Haven't heard many good things about revo for the 1.4tsi but was almost bought by their so called 'brand'.. Will have a look out for APR maps!

Maybe best spend on a Skoda Warranty rather than a Remap and run it standard for a year.

Then fill your boots. unless you have a spare £3,000-£4000 if it all goes wrong.

The REVO advice is good, just the map is not for a CAVE twincharger.

Got the car directly from skoda and the dealer threw in a years warranty, although I'm pretty sure the ITG induction voids it, although I'm chuffed with it! I guess rushing in is a rookies mistake which is stopping me from going all out of mods too quick! After all if I get a stage 1 from APR it'll only be a matter of time until I get used to that! Was also looking at cobra sport downpipe to delete the middle silencer as well as a cobra sports pipe to get the exhaust popping on downshifts without having a headturning exhaust?

A stage 1 map will transform the car. The kick back you now feel in 2nd gear and 3.500 rpm when you floor it, will extend to 3rd gear same rpm and 4th gear will still get you going pretty quickly as opposed to stock. There's no other way really to get what you want without a map or a piggyback but I can only provide info on the earlier. The induction alone can't make any significant difference and naturally you haven't felt any. If you use the car as a daily driver and carry passengers often I would not recommend touching the exhaust merely for the sake of an added 10 bhp as you will be sacrificing travel quietness for very little and barely noticeable power gains.

Stage 1 = WOW. That's where the big change happens.

Stage 2 = More noise (some like it) but power-wise you will be wondering what did I spent 1K+ for? Almost feels the same?! Just increases your appetite for hybrid / big turbo = Big £££

You don't need to change the downpipe to get the exhaust popping. A cat-back will do that.

Since it came from Skoda and got a Skoda warranty did you check the service history on it and if any Warranty work was done?

12 months Skoda Warranty is a rather nice thing if you are keeping the car for a while.

You should know within a few thousand miles if you have a good one and you are prepared to forego the safety net of a warranty

and pay for any failures yourself.

Now is the time to give it laldy and see if it breaks or just goes better.

Also maybe get it on a Dyno and see what it has now before spending on trying for more.

Hmm I guess but the cat back exhaust seems a bit too loud judging by the cobra sport video of a vrs on you tube. The intake doesn't improve power but I like the extra turbo whoosh sound it adds without adding a dump valve (something I see pointless). The more I think of it and the more people I speak to, more sense it makes to upgrade braking and handling before increasing the power. Seen some decent anti roll bars and upgraded disks and callipers that may make more sense for someone starting out

I had eibach springs , H&R front and rear anti roll bars, yellowstuff pads, ATE racing fluid... made it much better.... and without ANY power upgrades, that made a massive difference on track (and of course on the road)

I think after a few days of really concentrating on the characteristics of the car, the brakes are probably first on the list. They're pretty good standard I think but when you're really pushing on they get very hot very quickly

They are adequate just if you are pushing on at NSL's and happen to use your brakes more then maybe changing down gear manually.

Brake fluid upgrade and brake pads give a rather inexpensive improvement on the road or track.

Then the world is your oyster after that, buy parts that were fitted to other VWG models and fit.

Still use good brake fluid and maybe better brake pipes.
