What design are your 16" alloys? What are you going to do with them if you fit 17" wheels? I might be interested in them if you are selling.

You can fit snow chains to front 16s but not 17s if that's an issue.

You and your flippin snow chains! :)

Just as it's warming up here :sun:

Give it up, will you?

To the OP,

Check that your insurance company will allow you to make the change.

Here my update WOW what an improvement in noise

I've taken my Micheln 205 55 16 energy X off my greenline

And replaced with origami Michelin 225 50 17 cross climate

and can honestly say it's like riding in an Audi it is now so quiet and smooth

I wouldn't have believed it Totally differant car

No need for sound proofing just fit these tyres and see for your self

And as a bonus the speedo is bang on 40 is 40 60 is 60 etc where as 40 was 36 and 60 was 55

Have to see on mpg now was 55mpg so I'll report back

How can a crossclimate tyre (seemingly more aggressive in tread pattern) produce less noise than an energy tyre providing less friction?

I'll be replacing my tyres soon and looking into my options for the 16" Moon...

If you look at the tyre specifications the 16" he is taking off are rated at 70 dB and the 17" he has put on are rated at 69dB with excellent wet grip.

Cross Climate in 205/55 16 is even lower at 68dB.

All I can think is that the 17" wheel fills the wheel arch more than the 16" rim did and therefore less aerea for the sound to vibrate

As I said earlier I am amazed in the sound differance between the 2 wheel sizes and tyres made by the same manufacture

But differant tired patterns

If in any doubt come to Buxton and have a test drive The cross climate tyres are that good !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The overall rolling circumference of the wheels and tyres is almost the same, so that doesn't apply.

Isn't the 17" wheel/tyre combo wider though - thus a greater volume?

The tyre is wider but the height is less, therefore the overall rolling circumference is roughly the same, as is the overall diameter.

When changing the wheels over I did notice the new 17" are apx 1" bigger than the old 16" they do look big in the wheel arches

And my speedo is bang on now post-125810-0-15802900-1467007263_thumb.jpeg

Have a read of the reviews on the Cross Climate's they are a very quiet tyre and don't seem to rumble on poor surfaces as other tyre do.
