boot lifting strut mounting point

Recommended Posts

So today i closed the boot lid and heard a metallic rattle.

Opened it up again and it felt really heavy - realised driver side lifter piston was detatched from the C pillar? Bugger i thought, its popped off the mount somehow?

but no..

The screw in ball mount has managed to press itself out of the thread, bent the side of the hole, and just fell out.. ill get a pic tomorrow - couldnt mange to do that while propping the boot open with my arm and removing the piston with the other.

Anybody experienced it? Best fix option?

That's strange that because mine must have done the same at some point, and somebody has welded it back on. (Badly) my first thought was that it had been in an accident, but further checks show no accident damage, or signs of repair, so it is nice to hear that it's not just mine that this has happened to.I know this doesn't cheer you up any though but it does me lol. Welding is the only option looking at mine. Hope you do a better job than what's been done on mine.

hi guys this happened to me.   thought about welding instead ive put a rivet nut in the hole then u just have to screw the ball shaped screw into it.      bit tight with the rivet nut but if you google the method of 2 nuts and a long bolt you can get it to tighten up nicely,   had no issues with mine at all

Cheers guys, i know a couple of guys who are handy with welding gear, and i have thought about it as the only /easiest fix.

may have to look into the rivet bolt idea though too :)
