Gearbox issue?

Recommended Posts

Got a 2014 plate fabia vRS, 18000 miles.

Noticed recently when pulling away and the gear changing from first to second it makes a noticeable loud knock, all other gears are fine.

Noise happens when in sport or manual when it's changing from 1st to 2nd

Any ideas?

Ask to be shown another vrs that makes the same noise if you have doubts. I did it with kia when they said there was nothing wrong with the starting. It sounded like a bag of spanners, misfiring and smoking. Just walked upto same model at dealers turned the key turned it back off and said ring me when you've sorted it

Mine has a slight "clonk" when changing from first to second or reverse to first when its first cold in the morning, has done it since I've had it. Was told this was normal? Always does it, never heard it any other time. My cousins VRS does the same thing and got same response from dealer

Sounds like engine rocking on the engine mount

I got told this was normal as well, never happens in D and rarely in S but often in M. Had clutch packs replaced under warranty.

bimbobob,

OzFabia had a bit of oil use & got new Oil Spray Jets fitted after first getting New Oil Breather Pipes.

He had a DSG issue and got a new gearbox fitted.

Consistent treatment in Australia seems about as unlikely as it has been in the UK.

Does it make this noise every shift from first to second? Or just the firs time you start up?

DSG boxes are fairly noisy to be honest, they have a lot of clunks and rattles. It's all pretty normal.

When you first pull away in the morning you will also have the abs self check that will make a clunk noise if you listen carefully enough for it.

The cattle grid noise has been reported on here for 5 years now, but really the changes should not be noisy,

and it is not as designed or really acceptable except by those that accept it.

You get noises if you listen hard enough in some cars, open the windows, but they do not all do it,. just noisy ones.

Gear changing noise, a clunk from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd,

I had this problem . As I thought it was the gearbox at first or maybe a linkage , I was getting a new spring fitted when I noticed I also needed a new shock , both were replaced then we noticed that there was a little bit of play in and around the drive shaft it turned out that it was the (CV JOINT)

To all if your getting a noise (clunk) when changing gear (the noise comes from the left had side of the car it would make you feel it's the gearbox or your clutch , it's not. as I had a new clutch fitted just over 1000miles ago.

The problem is your*************** CV JOINT**************** my has been changed and all is good the clunk has now gone , thank god for that.

Hope this will help save people time and money .

Cv joint , price was £22.06 from a local motor factors , another was £25.00 , euro car parts was £36.00 and GSF was £25.00 plus vat.
