2013 Rapid 1.2tsi Elegance greentech in black

So this time 2 years ago my wife and I bought a white rapid 1.2 elegance. We loved that car, it felt really pokey for a 1.2 and it was treated like one of the family. In august last year we had just given it it's annual detail and the car was gorgeous.

Then we had a lorry it us... bye bye beautiful rapid. In fairness to the company that owned the recycling lorry they were really good and their insurance dealt with it really quickly.

So the white rapid was changed for a black one :)

This one has had its clean and is about to have its audio upgraded. It already had a load of accessories from new and came with the Amundsen plus sat nav, mud flaps, sills, black grill, de-badged, rear tints, led rear number plate lights and a front splitter;) anyway hoping the audio install goes as planned tomorrow... I'll try and upload some pictures.

Damn phone wont show me the picture :(

What audio upgrades you planning?

I went all out on this one as I plan to keep it forever and the last upgrade in our white rapid was installed very poorly.

So....

Amundsen+ nav head unit...(source)

Audison Bit 10d (processor to run the system active)

Alpine MRV-F340 (4x55w @ 4 ohms 14.4v - powering the front tweeters and mids)

JL Audio C3 650 (front speakers)

Alpine MRV-M500 mono (250w @ 4 ohns 14.4v for the sub)

Alpine SBG-844BR (8" Sub in box 120w @ 4 ohms)

Lots and lots of dynamat extreme, both skins of the front doors (well worth doing just that in my opinion as the car as quieter and the door sounds solid rather than tinny)

It's all been hided away from sight, apart from the sub as its a bit hard to hide!

It's had a basic tune but I'm waiting to for it all to bed in and then I'll retune the system.

I didn't take any photos at the time (I should have!!!) but I must recommend Oxford car Audio!!!! I'll do a proper write up another time :)

My kids used to like that too, when the bass shook the back seat. Only occasionally though, little ears to protect and all.

Thats one of the reasons I went for the Audison bit 10d, I can turn the sub down. Even at low volume it sounds good and no horrible noises this time and everything works properly!

I used to have a vibe 10" bandpass enclosure... that weighed loads...didn't sound as nice as this 8" does either!

I bought the sub and box off ebay for £35... best £35 i've spent on audio - I've made a load on mistakes in the past like buying cheap but having to buy twice, I've used local installers that have up-ed their price from the quote they gave, I've used a mobile installer that left me with a whining noise from a poor earth he'd put in. I've skimped on sound deadening so the mid range was crap. Thats why I went to Oxford Car Audio... Alpine have had some of their demo cars done there and they're generally nice guys. I intended to use an old Rockford Fosgate Punch 120a2 amp but the years of storage in my mum and dad's garage weren't kind to it (it wasn't very well!!) so Mark at OCA did me a deal on the mono amp (admittedly it wasn't a cheap install but I supplied a broken amp, he didn't have to sell it cheaper!)

That lasted 11 months and then the carbon effect discoloured and started peeling off...

The front splitter literally split!!! so its been replaced with one that doesn't act as a snow plough!
