.....and if it goes "really well, very quick" then i wouldn't say its the turbo.

I am under the impression that if the turbo goes, its gone!!

I am by no means a mechanic but simply trying to think logical....

Mr Sniper,

Heres one for you.....

After driving and thrashing the balls off the car with the egr blocked, i unblocked it this morning and connected the egr again.

With the egr operational and everything the way it was before I'm not getting limp and its pulling normally...

WTFFFF

As my engine light came on, probably due to blocking the egr, do u think that the computer has made it inoperable somehow and once i clear the codes the p0299 will come back??

Thats the only thing i can think of

MIND F*CK

unless you switch off sensor/egr/whatever in ECU...ECU still knows about it and consider it as fault. Until you clear fault codes in ECU, car is in limp mode or reduce power in better case.

unsure about "blocked EGR"...if you mean what people used to do...put a steel/asbestos plate before EGR so that it would be blocked? If yes, it doesn't work this way on new cars with EDC16 ECU such as your car. You have to switch EGR off in ECU.

Problem with fault codes is that you should clear them first and then wonder what new codes come up. There may be some old or intermittent codes, which works now.

Standard procedure is to save all fault codes, clear them...drive and check out what you get. VCDS Lite from Ross Tech cost about 90€ and you can do diagnostic yourself !!! It is one visit in service and you have your investment back.

simple plug and play. try to clean it first though !!! take it off and clean it with warm water and some dish cleaning stuff. Sometimes it is just dirty from years of use.

He said becauseidon't have enough air to mix with diesel in the turbo i can't go in revs hard.. And the black smoke is diesel unburned

ECU has got so called smoke limiter map. NO AIR = NO FUEL !!!

if your car smokes, you're most likely burn oil. Usual problem is dead turbo, which leaks oil trough air intake manifold. If you disconnect manifold before/after intercooler and lots of oil comes out. Well your turbo is dead.

Yes- i/we put a piece of metal in between pipe from EGR cooler and EGR valve, "blocking it off". Drove it around and got an engine light (didnt have one before) BUT wasn't going into limp mode and boosting, as per diagnostics, like it should.

Then removed the piece of metal (so EGR unblocked) and drove the tits of it and again it wasn't limping and boosting the same as when i did the "block"...AND engine light went off...

Its as if blocking egr and driving it hard for a while "cleared" whatever the f**k was making me underboost - which sounds to me alot like wishfull thinking and im just waiting for it to come back....but again today, in 38degrees weather thrashing the life out of it....nothing, no limp mode.

Luckily i have beer to slowdown the inevitable brain fart i will have with this car hahahha

Just put the new maf on buuut on the way dpf came on , and couldn't regenerate because is over 45 g of dirt inside, do i have to buy new one?? No more problem with the maf , the car is still in limp mode because of dpf. Any ideas? Cheers

you need forced regeneration with VCDS cable or service but if your DPF is clogged already...well you have to buy new one.

Mine DPF was clogged too because German guy used to drive short distances (people always buy wrong cars). It took me a half year of full load fun in mountains to get DPF burnt with excessive heat. I didn't see any performance loss (usual for clogged DPF) but my DPF tried to regenerate itself constantly...for example 500km/4.5hours.

So i can't really clean it? Because the mechanic try to clean with vcds but the car wouldn't let him cuz' is more the 45 grams, mine is 47,2 grams, i was thinking if i can get rid of those 2-3grams(specialist or cleaner or something) and after to use the vcds to regenerate? You think it will work? , the only error is about the dpf now.. No more maf sensor
