Delays crossing from the UK to France because of extra security checks.

France is right to take all security measures they can with people entering their country.

But is this France showing just what control they can have over the UK after the BREXIT vote and once

the UK does leave the EU, if it ever does leave the EU?

'Britain is open for business'

Just not in control of exports or deliveries that need to cross the seas to get to Britain in passing through mainland Europe.

Been through the Euro Tunnel a few times in the last few weeks, including this week and had no issues whatsoever.

We were made to come off the motorway just before entering Belgium, just inside the French border, but no stopping or checks at all.

Is anyone surprised they've taken extra security measures given what's happened recently in France and Germany?

If those attacks had happened here wouldn't you want extra controls in place?

Indeed France has every right to increase it's security on all it's borders as long as it is just that, all it's borders. If this is just between UK/France then it makes no sense unless their security forces know something ours do not.

Perhaps we should help them by duplicating their arrangements in the UK and making sure no undesirables are escaping from France or potential terrorists are travelling to the UK under the umbrella of the so called "Freedom of Movement.

Interesting that they are doing this on potentially the busiest time of the year.

True, but it's a sad case that I suspect in both cases the people involved were either born in France or entered France through one of the many completely open borders across the whole of the EU.

From what I recall of all the attacks in France they have all been resident in France at the time. Germany have admitted far to many migrants, and its a very short journey from Germany to France. Nobody so far has been a UK resident, and if we were part of Schengen then none of this would be happening. Trouble is with this going on now, wait until we leave the EU (if indeed we do at all).

This is just the French making a point, 4 weeks ago when I went through the same enhanced security was in place and there was no problem.

Maybe easier to get the Ferry to Belgium and drive across the border into France, or even the ferry to Spain and drive across if you want that area.

The French are only doing this because they knew it would be the busiest Friday for British holiday makers going to France. I wouldn't spend any of my hard earned in France, they are very quick to blockade ports and roads when they can't get their own way. The odd thing is that they didn't worry on checking too much when we with a lot of Americans and Canadians turned up in June 1944.

I take it that Amber Rudd MP is busy on the case this weekend, being diplomatic with the French,

discussing them doing security checks of people leaving France for the UK or the Channel Isles and even the Republic of Ireland and making plan for the UK Government having the Security Checks on the British Isles for those departing for France or mainland Europe.

Diplomacy and common sense really, then the UK can get the job done efficiently and quickly on British Soil,

or more likely employ G4S or some other Company that ex Home Secretaries are Directors and Share Holders of.

The French have been very busy and are checking those leaving France, when I returned the other week there was a 90 minute queue to get through from check in and through the migration checks on the French side of the tunnel and a 1 hour queue to get to check in. From arriving at the terminal entrance to the shops took just under 2 hours.

I think the queues heading to France are taking considerably longer than 2 hours perhaps a closure of the Chunnel Northbound for security reasons might up the ante, only for short periods of course......

Treaty of Le Touquet I believe it's known as.

It allows the French border patrol to have a presence on UK soil and the UK likewise on French soil.

Don't worry, the agreement will be ripped up once we're no longer in the EU.

Actually it wont, the treaty you are miss-spelling is one between the UK and France, there is no EU angle to it, so leaving the EU wont make it go away.

Don't we compensate France for this?

Post brexit if immigrants land in the UK they become our problem under the Geneva convention.

Under EU law we can send them back to the previous country they came from.

Port officials said delays built up due to understaffing of French border posts during heightened security checks. Kent County Council said only three out of a potential seven booths had been available overnight at French border control. At one stage only one French officer was available to check passengers on hundreds of coaches, resulting in each coach taking 40 minutes to process, said the council.

Heightened security normally means MORE staff not less.

I hope we only have one official to check every 100 French Lorries heading to the UK and every driver and their families stuck in the queue take the French government to the European court of human rights so the whole system is clogged up. I will not buy any French products in protest......oh I don't buy anything French anyway.

perhaps we Brits should do unto France, what they are doing unto us- but do it first. Lets start VOSA checks on French trucks -and hit them with fines for every petty offence. And then insist on tacho hours being observed- with French/every other continental truck being forced to take the official breaks in a UK park, before going further. That would not only clog up the system, but cost the Euro transport firms who would start hitting back at France. As for buying French stuff - i don't ,not since Peugot decided that they would take production back to France. Or they decided that they wanted to sell us thir apples, but tried to ban our lamb.

The thing is that everyone crossing the English Channel, the Irish Sea or the North Sea heading to Britain are heading to Britain,

but everyone and everything crossing the English Channel to land in France has not necessarily got France as their destination,

they can just be transiting France.

So Boris Johnson MP and Foreign Secretary needs to get his Beret on and hop on his bike and get diplomatically across to have a chat.

Not with his 'Allo Allo!' impression though.

Special offer and extra ferries to/from NL, spend on making a Eurostar freight station/depot in NL.

Make the EU take action against France.

Frankly just because Calais is closest, doesn't mean it's best. The Dutch don't do this.

Cancel the Hinckley contract and state UK to develop it internally.

We need to slap France for this.

Security checks relaxed Saturday lunchtime, so a good time for all the terrorists on their way to France to travel.

The French are a joke...and what will the EU do...naff all.

Have there been massive delays checking vehicles into France on the Belgium, German, Swiss, Luxembourg, Italian and Spanish borders?
