USB Media options

Looking at a 2016 model Yeti which has the USB in the centre console. Currently have a 2012 Octavia with the MDI cable in the glovebox - ideal for me as I use a harddrive with all my music stored. Has anyone routed a USB to the glovebox or elsewhere? as not wanting to leave the hard drive on display and in the sun.

 

Also, if this USB is used with the hard drive option I'm assuming that smart link & Android Auto would be pretty much pointless as my understanding is the phone must be connected to the USB for it to work?

 

Think not having 2 USB connections is an oversight on Skoda's behalf.

But there is a sd card slot and the latest units accept SDXC cards and NTFS. Surely a 256GB card is big enough?

Android auto is excellent so I wouldnt tie the usb input up as a hdd input.

Guess the SD card route would solve the problem - believe it or not but 500gb+ of music which when I think about it is somewhat excessive!

Even a full 64gb card would make it hard to find what you want, I have over 100 albums on a 16gb card and even though not anywhere near full I'll put any more on a separate card.
At just under £9 each from Amazon it's not going to break the bank and leaves the USB socket free for other things.

Yes need the phone connected via USB for smart link / Android Auto, I find SD card fine for my music, although not used much as current Yeti has DAB fitted, so tend to use this most currently.

This is only true if the latest units allow a limitless number of tracks which is certainly not the case on the Bolero unit in my 2014 face lift Yeti. It won't even fill a 16gb card before it hits the limit, never mind 256gb. This was the same with my first Yeti so I made sure I ticked the option for the MDI on my second Yeti. (Number of tracks is limitless on MDI.)

I have around 40gb on a 64gb card but a lot of that is FLAC. MDI is no longer an option,

 

Also I have around 200GB of music on my phone. When i connect that I can play the music through Andriod Auto even while using google maps.
