Fitting 3.5mm Jack for Bluetooth?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Firstly thank you for being such an active community! I've spent many years coming across this site with helpful information when I had my 2001 Fabia.

I've recently upgraded car to a 2006 Octavia Elegance - bit of a jump from the 01 Fabia Comfort :)

I'm looking for some advice regarding fitting bluetooth functionality to my new Octy.

On my Fabia I'd fitted a single-DIN bluetooth stereo to listen to podcasts. I see this isn't really possible due to the in-built units.

All I want to be able to do is play audio from my phone to the car speakers. I don't care about controls or phonecalls etc.

I can't seem to see any 3.5mm inbuilt audio jack, sadly.

Is there a way in which I can swap out the CD Multichanger in the boot for a bluetooth unit of some sort?

I'm also a novice at car things, so the simpler the option, the better!

I have disconnected the cd changer and fitted a connect 2 unit which give me aux on standard head unit. Cheap and easy to fit, however, with a fascia change you can fit a single din radio into the mk2 as I have previously done this too

Probably better off fitting an aftermarket headunit.

Will get better sound and a lot more functionality out of it.

My main concern is price / difficulty of installation, as I had a fair bit of trouble with with one on the Fabia.

What unit would you recommend?

I have a Pioneer MVH-X560BT which cost around ?100. A mechless headunit which connects to just about anything. iPod, Andriod via Bluetooth or USB or aux in.

This is what I had in my Fabia, but got rid of it as didn't think it would fit the Octy head unit as it was so vastly different.

Currently looking at this option: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FABIA-OCTAVIA-MP3-IPOD-AUX-ADAPTOR-CTVSKX003-/300376755833?rmvSB=true&afsrc=1&clk_rvr_id=1067423216232

I assume this is the Connect2 Unit I see referred to regularly on here?

Yep. That's exactly what I have, but I then bought a female to female and connected one end to the aux supplied with that kit and stripped the other end and fitted it into a blank in the dash under the climate controls effectively making a retro fit aux socket.

Sounds pretty neat and tidy. May give this a go. How hard was the Connect 2 unit to fit? Did one of the blanks just push you for you to slot the aux into?

Hoping I can get a bluetooth adaptor and fit into the AUX as my phone jack socket is super dodgy!

Connects to unit is super easy to fit. Remove stereo, disconnect lead to cd changer and plug connects 2 unit in its place. Plug phone into aux lead, press cd on head unit and away you go.

Yes the buttons just lift out when you remove the radio fascia.

Brilliant :) Sounds like I may be able to manage it - that's my Birthday present sorted too!

Once I've got the AUX in I'm sure I can fashion something else to connect in via BT.

Thanks for your help Mike.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just changed my set up.

Piggy back/add a fuse, plugged into a switched live and to positive lead on a cigarette lighter, small wire made up with spade connector one end and fork connector on the other for Earth from cigarette lighter to body ground (behind a bolt on metal frame behind fuse box)

Like so:

Then with the cigarette lighter I plugged in a 2xusb power source and then bought a Bluetooth to aux module. (£7.99 flea bay). Ran cables behind dash and plugged into connects 2 unit behind stereo. And Bingo, bog standard stream unit now has Bluetooth for music and calls. Total cost including connects 2 around £45-50. No messing around with changing fascia and somewhat keeping stock look but still have climatronic and reversing sensor control on radio and now have Bluetooth connectivity. Excuse the mess she needs a clean

I'd guess at stream as he has no aux socket

I was erring that way too, but we have people with Stream MP3 that didn't know the aux is at the back of the arm-rest ;) ;)

I have had a good search around but couldn't see anything. May be being blind though ;) It just says Steam on the head unit.

That's what you have then. The stream MP3 usually has mp stamped on it
