Superb L&K specs please

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of buying a Skoda Superb on a 64 plate 16000 miles.

Firstly, It is the L&K version but the dealer says it does not have Adaptive Cruise Control.

I thought all L&K models regardless of year have this feature.

Secondly, The dealer says I will have to go in to them to have the lights changed to drive in France, whereas I understood that as part of the AFS lighting, this is just a control through the "infotainment" computer. Can anyone clarify this for me as I do not have time to go to the dealer at the moment?

Many thanks.

Hi there and welcome as I see its your first post.  If you're looking at a 64 plate it is obviously the previous generation (or Mark II as we call it) so it would not have all the latest tech which is available on the very latest Superb.  One of these features is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).  It was never available on a MKII AFAIK and only the more basic version of cruise control would have been fitted for these models.  In terms of the lights, yes you are correct, if you have an L&K it will have AFS and bi-xenons and therefore there is a feature called 'tourist mode' which you can select yourself from the menus - no need for a manual adjustment as would be required with the standard halogen lights.

The car has AFS 2 which includes a setting to adjust for driving on the right hand side of the road via MFD.

I can't comment on the ACC but if you can get the VIN and get a Skoda dealer to pull the build list, it will tell you for certain whether it is fitted or not. I'm not sure if the L&K spec was supposed to have it or not.

Superb170 is correct - ACC was not an option on Superb II's (including facelifts). You'd have to go for a Superb III to get it.

I've used it on a Golf MK7 - Its nice on the motorway once you get familiar with it.  I wouldn't mind having it in the future but it would never be a deal breaker (provided I had "normal cruise control") on a car that was otherwise right for me.

I have this model bought January 2014. I agree with what you have been told so far. I have the 170 and it is a great car to drive.

The standard cruise control works well. You can change the headlight settings as suggested by others.

The ventilated seats are most welcome in hot weather. ( no that we have had much this year ).

I have used the auto park once to show off to my grandson, he loved it.

If you buy a cheap OBD reader and use the Carista software, you can make some changes such as having the coming home lights use the fogs other than the  more expensive xenon.

I changed the lane change repeat to 5 rather than 3, suits me better. It also provides a read out fault codes.

There is a lot on offer on this model and I would not rule out this car because it does not have Adaptive Cruise Control, unless that is a deal breaker for you.

If you want adaptive cruise the Mark 3 Octavia is the first Skoda model it became available on AFAIK. ACC combined with a DSG gearbox is a combination I'd love to have for busy A road driving. I stuck with a manual box because ACC wasn't available, so no great benefit to DSG and higher maintenance costs. I still slightly regret not waiting for a car with cooled seats to become available, but I'd probably still be waiting on the Irish market - I've seen a grand total of one in Ireland so far and that was a twindoor rather than the estate.

Thanks for all the help. I have a few more questions ...

Can someone indicate how I get t o the "tourist" menu option?

Also, as an aside, does this model have twin gate option. This would be really handy. Has anyone a picture of the buttons to press?

Also can someone explain why some 2 litre cars are 140 ps and other 170 (or is it 190)? How can I tell which model this one is?

Sorry. I am taking this car for a drive on Saturday afternoon and want to try everything out. :nerd:

Twin door is a standard feature on all Superb 2 models (except the estate obviously) as far as I know.

The two versions of the 2.0 engine are different power outputs - there's another recent thread here discussing the relative merits of the different power outputs. I'm not sure what the engine codes for the different versions are for that year, but if you look at the build sticker in the spare wheel well it should list the power output of the engine that is fitted. 103 kW is the 140 and 125 kW is the 170. The 190 bhp engines were fitted to the Superb 3.

For 'tourist lights' go to the main MFD menu, scroll down to - settings - lights and vision - should be an option to tick 'travel mode' in there.  For the twin door feature, there are two buttons under the hatch lid - one in the middle which opens it (by default) in saloon/boot mode. There is a second button to the right of this.  If its a facelift version (which I'm assuming it is), then you simply push this right-hand button and it opens as a hatch. You might see the third brake light flash momentarily.

Note, if the boot is already open and you want to open as a hatch, just close the boot and press the button on the right to re-open as a hatch.  Also, when you close the hatch you should hear some clicking noises - this is normal, it is just the mechanism resetting.

In the pre-facelift models, you had to hit the right-hand button to switch to hatch mode and then go back and use the middle button to open as a hatch so this step was removed with the facelift.  Hope all that makes sense.......

Make sure both versions of the twindoor opening work - there is a well documented (i.e. Fixable for very little cost apart from time and solder for the home gamer) issue with the wires breaking where they go through the hinge the saloon boot uses to open, so it's a great bargaining tool if there is any issue with the boot opening or lights on the boot lid.

Brilliant! I will check all this out - I am going to be the dealers nightmare! I look forward to a treat driving it. i was looking at Merc e-class but I would have to pay the same for an older car to get these features.

I hope all is ok. It sees to be a reasonable price £17k for 64 reg with 16000Miles. Any thoughts?

Shame it doesn't have ACC.

I also need to check if any warranty it had will continue.

Thank you all - any other things to look out for will be gratefully received.

Hi

You are doing all the right things, getting advice etc. The car comes with a three year warranty from registration and I am sure it is transferable. but do ask.

Check on which service interval it has been set at, there is fixed and vriable. I have mine set at fixed as I do not do many miles, 6K per year. However, i have ensured a yearly oil change is undertaken.

Most importantly , check that the car has been serviced in accordance with it's schedule and by a Skoda dealership. Otherwise, if anything does go wrong, Skoda will wash their hands of warranty issues if the services intervals have not been maintained and done properly. I have found Skoda UK to be helpful if you have followed the 'rules'.

Regarding price, i cannot comment as you are aware it is not just about price but also the above. Also give the car a very good check all round and look for any obvious signs of repair and ask the questions directly to the salesman. Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs but you did ask  :notme:

Thanks Raptor. I really appreciate the advice.

I am a complete novice when it comes to car buying in general and especially Skoda as I have not previously considered them as a mark. Now that I take a look, I am impressed. Really looking forward to the test drive..

BTW I took a look at a thread re power and it is interesting that this seems to have 140 ps but is a lighter car than my Audi A6 AVANT which I think has only 135 PS and is about 110KG heavier. It is going to be interesting to see how it feels.

Well impressed with the test drive. The suspension is a bit less compliant than my Audi A6 but the ride was not unpleasant. I tried all the toys.

Cruise control fine - I havv this already and Adaptive is not really required .

Electric memory seats - very smooth and a nice feature though at the moment I will be the only driver until my daughter passes her test.

Twingate - brilliant!

Sat nav - better than my audi as it is touch screen - forgot to try the voice control.

Bluetooth to my phone - yep easy.

Found the Travel mode for the headlights.

And Finally .....

I tried the Park Assist. Really cool but a bit weird. Actually I almost forgot to check for myself where the front and rear of the car were so as a pedestrian walked by (while I was reversing   :peek: ) I almost ran them over. Fortunately I was listening to the beeps so realised something was up. It was quite interesting. I had parked my Audi over the verge slightly due to the problems of parking on that road, as others had done. The next nearest car was about 20 meters away. When I used the Park Assist it lined up exactly with my Audi, so it definitely uses the vehicles rather than the kerbs by my reckoning.

Anyway. I was going to go for a drive in an E-class but now I am convinced this is the car for me.

I will let you all know how this goes.

Good to hear you were impressed. You mentioned the voice control. I have to say in my experience it is not great and I gave up using it as I got frustrated. Maybe it's just me but the voice recognition just doesn't appear to pick up on the dialect etc

Its not just you - I had to become bi-lingual to use mine. I can now say "New destination" and "Home" and "Radio" and "Phone" in two entirely different accents.

And saying "Phone Home" or "Home" still sometimes sends me to may parents "holiday home rental" in Co. Sligo, when I live in Co. Clare.

Maybe its simply clever enough to monitor the drowsiness alert, see I need a break and send me for a holiday, but I don't think so....

Same here regarding voice control, way too intermittent for my liking, i did try showing it off with some friends in the car, having gone over the many hurdles required,  I asked her to take me home, the response was....... a very loud "pardon". I could not hear anything more after that from the noise of the laughter in the car.  :notme:

Maybe when I a bored I may try it again.
