Evening all I purchased a superb for a rediculous price and I have put a sat nav unit in and I don't appear to have any sound coming from the unit but also no volume control appearing in screen. Im jus wondering if/what the multi plug is for on the reverse of unit other than the standard iso plugs any help much appreciated.

I have no idea of the setup on these Skoda systems. But I have found out that they are different to other VAG systems typicaly. Do I need to get the amp system as well it's proving quite difficult might just buy a pioneer unit

I don't think so.  MFD with amp / DSP is a pretty common setup on many VW platforms of this age (more common on Superb as it was top-of-the-range).  What is lacking here is the knowledge ;)

My MFD is connected to a large amp and DSP unit under the parcelshelf - line level audio comes out of the MFD and is DSP processed then amplified, and the speakers are wired to the boot instead of the head unit.  It stands to reason that if your MFD came out of a car with an amp it may not work out of the box.

A little google would indicate that the MFD unit can be coded it seems to either send the audio to an amplifier or to have passive speakers (coding is done via VCDS or factory diagnostics).

Radio System:
??xxx: Sound-Curve

00 - Flat Curve
01 - Golf (1J)
02 - Bora (1J)
03 - Golf/Bora Variant (1J)
04 - Passat Limousine (3B/3BG)
05 - Passat Variant (3B/3BG)
06 - Lupo/Polo
07 - Golf-Cabriolet (1E)
08 - Sharan (7M) / New Beetle (1C)
09 - Transporter/Caravelle

xx?xx: Speakers

0 - no passive Speaker (DSP)
2 - 2 passive Lautsprecher (vorn)
3 - 2 passive Lautsprecher (hinten)
4 - 4 passive Lautsprecher (vorne und hinten)

xxx?x: Sound System Correction

0 - Keine Korrektur (ohne DSP)
1 - mit Bose-Soundsystem
2 - Sound-System (DSP)

If you want to get this working my first idea (haven't done this myself, but this would be my thought process) would be to hook up VCDS to the car with the new MFD unit fitted, and see if there is coding that would take it from amplified speakers mode to passive speakers mode, as the post above would imply there is on VW MFD units.

Let us know how you get on. :)

I've just gone outside and hooked up VCDS to my unit.  It is as per above - there is coding via VCDS which tells the head unit how it is connected.

I've taken a photo of it here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-_YzKUQ1hkzel8tRHQzMXJLeEU/view?usp=sharing

Mine is coded as 00027, which means:

00 - Other

0 - no passive speakers

2 - DSP system installed

7 = 1+2+4 = Active Antenna, CD changer, Secondary display.

It stands to reason that the internal amplifiers might be disabled if the unit is set to "No passive speakers".  You should see what the MFD is set to using VCDS.

No worries.  As I say, I don't know if this does disable the internal amps, but it might.

The other thing to check is that there are indications on the pinout label for the connectors that the unit does support speakers on the speaker connector.  It is possible I guess that they made units without internal amps to save costs, if they knew they were all going with DSP units.  If speaker icons / or +/- labels aren't on the speaker connector diagram, it would be a fair bet they've depopulated the amp sections on the board.
