Aftermarket stereo fitting advice

Recommended Posts

Morning all, I've bought a replacement aftermarket double din stereo (a Sony if it makes any difference) and I'm pomdering a couple of things.

Do I need an aerial booster?

Does anyone have a recommendation on a fitting kit?

Cheers

Pete

Is the radio the same shape as the original or is it square?

If you search for a fabia 5j double din on eBay you will see everything you should need.

As for the booster, you won't know until you fit it.

I just fitted a kenwood dnx521dab and my original booster aerial wouldn't work. It worked on the original radio but nothing on the kenwood. Bought a new one and it's all good.

you will need a power injector for the aerial, as the aerial base has an amplifier in that needs power, the OEM units do this within the radio but third party ones don't

Hi! I'm interested in this topic as well, as I have fitted an after market ddin unit. My new unit comes with the twin fakra connectors on the back, so I guess I would need a booster with twin fakra in both ends? The ones I can find on the web all seem to have fakra in one end and different types on the other end.

I've got all the bits but I'm stumped on how to get power to the aerial booster. Would it be possible to use the power antenna/amp remote out as a power supply?

you need something like this

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/antenna-adaptors-pc5-90-signal-separation-filter-iso-din

or

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/autoleads-pc5-137-aerial-adaptor

and the blue wire goes to switched live according to what I am reading on the net, there should be instructions in the box
